Intonation is excellent. I'm loving it through my tweed/blackface but haven't been able to dial it in yet on my Aiken.

Yes. But the Comanche purchase was to help me afford the Huber.

Sold a Grosh and used the proceeds to pay down CC debt and buy the G&L.

That's a beautiful thing....

What is the neck like - you said the Junior was too big so what is this one like?

How does it compare to (say) an R8 or R9? I'm thinking about a Huber - specifically an Orca and probably don't like necks under 1" at the 12th - think R9 or R8 size. Is there a standard Huber carve?

The neck on my Krautster is fairly chunky. Definately in the R8/R9 range.

The Nik Huber website contains fairly specific info regarding the neck carve (dimensions at 1st and 12th fret) for each model. I have provided a link for the Orca here. From the guitars I own, the Krautster II has my favorite profile, a bit slimmer than the Orca '59, which is more like my R9 Gibson LP. But as I've come to learn there is significant variation from instrument to instrument in Gibson's Historic reissue line. I don't believe that to be the case with Nik Huber guitars. All the Orca's I have played have very similar feels as have the Krautster II's I've played.

I know that I posted pics in the Krauster thread, I thought I'd post here too:

Rock n Roll Machine:

Here's a close up:

From above:

From behind:

Really close up:

It doesn't have a flame top, or quilted top or anything like that. It just feels good in your hands and sounds great when it's plugged in!

Bought it from Cliff at www.destroyallguitars.com.

Tried this as a separate thread with no luck.

Any Huber Junior or Special owners able to help out with clips or a review please?

I've got a Huber Special arriving September/ October.
Only seen one clip of a Junior into a Swart amp.
A few clips out there of: Krautster, Dolphin, Orca etc.

After hearing Lance Keltner's Krautster clip/s
I'd love to hear him do a Special preview.

Anyone playing a Special able to give their insight/ experience?
Thanks in advance.

Got to play a Twangmeister and Orca recently

Got to play both Hubers using:
a Two Rock 50w Studio Pro and 2 x12 Signature cabinet

Had about an hour with each.

The guitars themselves.

The woods, finishes, attention to detail, craftsmanship is superlative.

The Twangmeister.
The action and intonation was excellent all along the neck
even playing chords above the 12th-14th fret.

The Haussel bridge pick up was really impressive.
Very quiet.
The action was really nice and chording was effortless.
I love the neck pick up and the mid position.
It sat ideally on a clean setting for jazz or blues.
Middle position would be ideal for old r and b, Motown, solid rhythm setting.
I think the bridge pick up catches the tele twang easily but still maintains it's own voice/ integrity
as distinct to a standard or custom shop tele.

The Orca:

This was a revelation.
I have never bonded with Les Paul guitars
and Nik's take on them while different is one that I could easily
want to add to my stable which as a Tele/ Strat player was really a surprise.
i.e.The Orca could be the exception to my rule.
The quality of this build was spectacular.
I have not seen as good a finish on any guitar ever.
It is easily a guitar I felt at home with very quickly.

I have found Les Paul's to be too full on and somewhat muffled with a Vibro King.
The clarity through the Two Rock made me want an Orca
which is saying something as the Two Rock is a bit darker than my Vibro King.
I was surprised how much I loved the neck pick up as I'm most at home
on bridge and middle unless using a Twisted Tele neck pick up.

The articulation of each distinct note in the chord was really impressive.
Never muddy.
The neck on both guitars did take a little getting used to
compared to the ease of my Tele and Strat which might be a gentler shape.
Less C shaped (?) and I did wonder if I might want a different shaped neck at first.
After a while I felt more comfortable.

Can't wait for my Special due in October
and it has really made me want to try a Krautster.

Huber Special: I've got wood...

And so it begins.
Chosen by Nik himself after a LOOOONG wait.
Very light weight apparently.
More photos as the build takes shape.

Sweet-- cant wait to see the finished product. I hear Nic is very behind- some guitars promised to Jerry's are over a year late.

Ordered a Krautster II

I have a Krautster II on order and can't wait (the "race" special). It will probably take a while from what I hear, but this only increases the fun :-)

I was under the impression that they were only 4-6 weeks behind...
There is approx a 9-12 month wait but that's kinda we'll known, from the info I have theyre definitely not a year behind...
