Yeah, that is safe for occasional transactions. Pay Pal is watching the gift transactions these days. I know a guy that had a Pay Pal account since 2000 get his account "limited" to the point of not being useable for abusing the gift feature.

Unless I'm missing something, if Paypal doesn't release the funds into your account, wouldn't they see to it that your property is returned to you? If not, something is very broken in the system. In that scenario the buyer walks with his $7000 dollars reimbursed AND the guitars...no way that is how it will go down.

Even if you had to pay shipping to get them back, that would be better than the current situation. Lesson learned about selling international, and move on.

That's exactly the way it's going down nowadays. Paypal track down your property? No way. They're only interested in making money on the transactions. They're not a collections agency. They expect YOU to file the police report and have THEM recover your property. From what I've seen there seems to be no real protection in place for the consumer. I believe it's is just a term that was invented to bolster consumer confidence and that there is little if any staff to adequately investigate any false claims made by the buyer / scammer. If there is I've seen no evidence otherwise. This type scam is pretty common now.

The Kentucky Derby is a race, British people just have funny teeth.

That poor OP, they should change the name of this forum from "The Pub" to "The Prison Shower"

No, no really it is a sad story...

No, but the point remains. It is offensive, and frankly weakens the OP's case...he's better off not going down that route, in my view. The problem here is the slimeball who has effectively stolen 2 guitars, not the fact he had an 'annoying British' accent.

By the way, I'm British, so I might have an 'annoying' accent too.

Back onto the real point, I live outside the US and this kind of lowlife behaviour is really irritating to me. I often buy gear from the US, and it's sometimes not easy to do it in a way that the seller feels safe about it. This kind of behaviour makes it worse.

I had the same thing that happened to the OP happen to me. I followed all of the rules and got screwed. PayPal pretty much said too bad. I even read their seller protection guidelines aloud and showed them how I met them all. They just kept saying "unfortunately there is nothing we can do. please consider filing a police report" or something like that... Grrrr.

Even if you do, use the Gift option the money can still be charged back. It happened to me.

Bottom line, no international shipping for me, I dont care how much I need to sell the item.

Why is the "takeaway" (or part of it anyway) from this the OP's annoyance with the guy's accent? Is everyone looking to be offended by something?

I imagine, assuming all the facts as stated by the OP are true, that the "lawyer" is a source a major annoyance to him - annoyance as in thief and liar.

Everything about the guy would annoy me including, I suppose, his accent whether it was British, Indian, Midwest US, Southern US, East Coast US, etc...

Besides, I think British accents are cool

I'd be on a plane to pay Solicitor Paul a visit to resolve his issues in person and collect the guitars if that's not possible.

At a minimum, it would be interesting to suggest that solution and see what kind of response you get...

I know the OP must be annoyed, justifiably, and I agree with him about it. He's been swindled.

I'm not 'looking to be offended by someone'. But the OP did say "He's got that little annoying british accent voice". That comment is unnecessary. If it were reversed and someone said that about an American accent, most Americans wouldn't like it. I think it detracts from his case.
