I think if you listen to this style of music for a while you'll NOT want to hear on electric. I think Lagrene approaches the music differently on electric archtop (or solidbody) then on the gypsy acoustics.

The acoustic nature of the music is inherent to the style in other words. Very similar to bluegrass in that it's pert near impossible to replicate the style on a solidbody.

A lot of Django Reinhardt's later playing was done on an electric guitar. I guess you could say his playing is somewhat related to this Rosenburg fella!!

Electric guitar for Django was the same type of acoustic he always used, with a magnetic p.u. over the soundhole. So it wasn't like going from a high-action, heavy-gauge-string acoustic to a slinky string electric guitar.

Django did play and record with archtop electrics, as well as the Maccaferri with a Stimer pickup...I'd imagine the archtops were set up fairly similarly to his Selmers.

The US recordings with Ellington would comprise the bulk of his non-Sel-Mac electric guitar use, as I know it. I would not be surprised if he used whatever was available for recordings (say f'rinstance, if he "forget" to bring a guitar!), but believe that for the most part, any European recording of Django on electric were Sel-Mac w/ Stimer.
