Brazillian Prices Piss me off ....

Recently moved here... LOVE the place... people and food are amazing.
Music gear... Outrageous. I mean over the top stoopid.
I understand that things outside the US will be more expensive. Im thing 20-30.. heck maybe even 50% more. But no ... Not here my friend.... Try a good 200-400%.

I cannot for the life of me understand how these stores stay open. I mean, heck, import tax here is 60%........ Crazy high, but bear with me....
Take for example a $200 pedal. Add 60% + shipping your looking at $340 Dollars... Whatever... But stores are selling them for 500-700 DOLLARS.

Just ran across a king of tone going for 1050 DOLLARS .... American Dollars.

When I got here I sold my used Nova Delay after a guy offered me $500 for it.
Give I felt bad, and had sold it for $400.... Mind you, there are going for around the $600-650 range. Got my self a timefactor with that. Will probably do the same for a timeline shortly.

I just dont get why and how tehse stores stay open if the public can easily order stuff themselve, WITh tax and STILL save a bunch of money .......

Buy low from the emporium, sell high(er) in Brazil. Fun and profit with gear.
Yes you don't have to price gouge, but at least you can sell and break even or better.

Sounds like a business opportunity to me. Come to the States, buy up some pedals and take them back.

My brother in law is from Sao Paulo. We go down to visit from time to time and there are some GREAT shops there on Rua Teodoro Sampaio. But the prices are absolutely insane. I remember two years ago seeing the Gilmour strat (this was right after it came out) there. It was priced at the equivalent of $11,000 USD (which is more than double what it costs in the US.)

But they said they could do a deal on the NOS version (the non-relic) for about $8500. How do you say "No thanks, I'm just looking" in Portuguese?

Do you find it hard to get people to ship to Brazil? Is it hard to ship to Brazil? You could have a buddy buy up a boxload of pedals every month and send them down to you and you could sell them at a nice profit.

I guess it would have to be under the table but as long as you keep it small, and collectable, the money should be there.

PS: I have been to Rio and it is fantastic - another world.

Sounds like you should have stocked up here, took it with you and opened your own music store, LOL!
On a serious note, my neighbor is from Brazil and she has told me about how expensive it is there...not just music gear. Crowded too...and according to her, learn the areas that you can go safely and stay away from those "not-safe". I guess that goes with any large city anywhere in the world.
Enjoy yourself...I've always wanted to go there for a visit.

Start a boutique store and only charge 100% extra. You'll be doing gang busters.
