Using TGP to farm email lists for your political propaganda forwards

...not cool.

Maybe you need that dreck to feed you an opinion

but I can think for myself, thanks

sounds like you need to PM an admin if you need help hunting down the guy who did that.

Not sure how an admin could help, the email did not actually originate from TGP. I didn't mean to imply that.

I just didn't recognize the original sender, but I did recognize a great many of the names from here.

Interesting, yeah, I agree with the OP, not cool. Not that the jackass who did it gives a crap what I think about the advisability of the action. In any event forward any information you have to the Admin, you might be surprised what they can do.

Someone stuck me on the distribution list for NewsMaxx. Flagged that drivel as soon as I saw it.

That's against almost every TGP rule there is. Take it to an admin...

Random musings on the topic (or near it)

If you have a publicly posted email, such as in the "contact member" portion of a site, web crawler bots will pick it up and send you emails for everything you don't want. There are viruses that will strip mine a computer's address book and/or stored email senders/recipients. Also- less savvy email users will forward amusing (to them) spam/viral marketing messages without using a BCC.
If a musician sends me a reminder for a local gig with all their recipients listed in the address bar and they play the same kind of material my band does... I'm going to harvest those contacts!
All of my online 'persona' and business is done through my business email, phone number, and address.
It is unlikely that a TGP member has actively archived your email and specifically singled you out for political propaganda.
Sometimes in the past when I've gotten propaganda emails with other recipients in the address bar- if worthy, I'll write a big rebuttal with facts and send to everyone who got the original.
Brighten someone's day. Send them a free box of tampons or a free Bible!

Sounds like a good thing to do. But I got into my User CP and couldn't delete my address. A message drops saying I need my e-address in the field.

You can easily make your email 'private' on TGP so no one can get it.

If we catch folks grabbing emails = we ban them. It's STRICTLY against the rules.

Thanks Scott, that's very good to know.

As it turns out, my outrage was misdirected. The person who forwarded it was someone whom I'd made an emporium deal with in the past. It appears the email was sent to me (and everyone else) by accident. These things happen.

If you or another admin would lock this thread, I'd appreciate it.
