Single coil fever... Strat or Reverend?!
Hey guys! I realized I'm more of a single coils person after all this years. And I'm leaning to purchase a new guitar equipped with one, however I'm not really a fan of the strat bridge pup.
After trawling thru the options, I've narrowed it down to these two! the fender CP60s ![]() and the new reverend Eastsider S. Its supposed to be a broadcaster styled bridge pup So what do you say?? for a guy who wants a strat but just can't stand the bridge pup.. would the Rev give me what I'm looking for? Or just get the CP60 and mod the hell out of it.. |

Strats bridge pickups generally sound thinner and have less fullness then Tele type pick-ups. That can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what you're looking for. One of the good things about the CP60 strat is supposed to be the '69 pickups, so, I'd be sure to play one before buying. Or buy with the option of returning it. Both guitars have a 12" radius ( I like ) but the Reverend has a chambered korina wood body which should sound different than Fender's alder body. In terms of tonal differences, my guess ( without playing them side by side ) is that the Fender will have more high end chime and brilliance, whereas the Reverend will have more bass and midrange punch. Both are rumored to be good guitars, especially for the price. If you do get the strat, there a loads of replacement pickup choices for the bridge pickup if it's not to your liking.

Reverend all the way...but look at the Six Gun if you want a more Strat styled body.
It also has a BCC knob, Reverend's "secret weapon".

Thanks guys for the input! but I'm not really worries about the neck and mid pups as I've a fender 57/62 set lying around. its just the bridge that really bugs me... the rev is real tempting thou... oh and its 10" to 14" compound radius... not 12"

Don't discount those other 2 Rev pickups!!!
Joe designed them specifically for the Eastsider the way Pete asked for them.

This sounds like my 30 year tone quest. Here is what I did: 1. Moved the Strat tone POT from the middle pickup, to the bridge. 2. Wired my Strat for a single, master tone control. 3. Bought a Tele. 4. Bought a PRS Swamp Ash Special, but I wasn't satisfied with the split coil sound. 5. Bought a PRS Starla. It actually sounds good with humbucker, or split coil. |

The rev is way cooler. But if your heart is set in strat then strat it should be.

I'd either get the Reverend or the Fender and check it out. If it didn't work for you, I'd replace the bridge pickup with a Rio Grande Stelly (made to replicate a Tele bridge pickup) or a Rio Dirty Harry (sounds too good to pass up) or get something wound for you. No matter what, install a Deaf-Eddie Fat-O-Caster switch and make the master-tone conversion; in fact, that might do what you want without pickup swaps.

I played one of those Eastsiders at NAMM, and I'm in love. It's at the very top of my GAS list.
