Can Bad PWR Tube damage amp or preamp tubes??

My 6V6s are wistleling but can't afford new tubes. How long can I go like this before damage to amp happens?

It's unusual for power tubes to whistle, are you sure it's not a microphonic preamp tube? Check out this FAQ

If one of your power tubes shorts out, it could take some other components with it. This could include your output transformer which would lead to a costly repair.

I would suggest having the amp looked at by an amp tech.

I had power tubes whistling in a Mesa 2:90. Sounded more like wind than a whistle. Other than the whistling, the tubes were working fine. I got fed up with listening to it, so I replaced them.
