Lets get an Eric Johnson thread going!

I'll go first. Eric Johnson is so good he actually jams with other great musicians: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8VtV...eature=related

I just ordered the tab book for Up Close. I don't buy artist transcriptions too much these days, but Eric is one of those guys that I love to get some inspiration from and have fun playing (trying to play) some of his songs.

I think Gem and Arithmetic are two of the most beautiful songs he has written to date. Carlos Santana said it best when he said (paraphrasing here) that EJ "has no hate or aggression in his playing, just pure love and positiveness".

He's one of the all-time best IMHO.

probably my favorite musician. his songs give off such a positive vibe & always puts me in a great mood.
he's taken signature charateristics from many players & blended them together to create a style and sound that is instantly recognizable.
he's probably the only guitarist that could do an all instrumental record or show and never bore me.
we're fortunate to live in a time when he's still performing and recording.
as others have mentioned, he's one of the nicest most genuinely kind people you could ever meet.

a video i took last summer at the hob in new orleans.

EJ is a super kind, cool and just ethereal musician with instantly recognizable touch and melodic sensibility. I've probably listened to Venus Isle 5000 times in it's entirety and I still love it.

Eric and Eminence are coming out with a sig ceramic 12" to go in his 4x12s in place of the greenbacks. Coming from a guy who collects vintage cabs just to audition the speakers for gems, I gotta hear this. Sb much more affordable than his Alnico that just came out.

This is timely as I have been on an EJ kick lately. Downloaded "Up Close" and his cover of "Beck's Bolero" on Itunes and have been digging his playing on "Texas" alot. One of the greats fo sho!

I agree with all of you. I am currently in the process of learning East Wes! And Gem is a fantastic song!

EJ is definitely one of my biggest influences.
(more for his clean sounds than his lead/rhythm tones)
He's one of the few artists I like to listen to whose music
I don't feel compelled to learn how to play. I just listen.
