just got laid off...

Laid off, with no warning. And apparently the bossman knew for awhile it was going to happen.
Why not say something so I could prepare?

Oh well, maybe it's a blessing in disguise... somehow.

Man that is a bummer, sorry to hear it. Companies like to keep it secret and announce it late on Friday so you will leave and cool off over the weekend and hopefully not have any incidents. Good luck to you and I am sure all the folks here will be willing you some Job Karma.

Tim

Really sorry buddy. Any parachute?

And just some food for thought; not knowing your boss or the relationship you had with him, maybe he couldn't say anything? I am in that position and if I tipped off someone and they flipped out or said anything about it, it'd cost me my job.

Or he could have been a tool just as easily!

Good luck, I will say a prayer for you and yours.

Bob

Nope. He did pay me for a full day today when I only worked six hours. I don't think that quite fits under severance though.

Better things to come

And a lot of times they're not allowed to tell you,
for many reasons . Wouldn't take it personally

That is bummer man, I like your perspective though, sometimes things have a way of working out for the best, try to stay positive.

where are you located and what kind of work do you do? You never know, someone reading this might be able to help out.

As someone who was just recently laid off, welcome to the club. I was in shock for about 2-3 days, then I just picked myself up and kept going. I am sure you have been in the game longer than me so you know the routine (update resume, get references and headhunters). I am certainly one to talk but keep going and don't look back.

My girlfriend was just laid off Ericsson in a second round of massive layoffs this week. Just a few weeks ago she had a great review, pay increase and bonus to be paid next month. That's the telecom business. Good luck to you.

IF that was the reason, there should be some legal recourse for you, if you want to even go there...

Good luck though. I got laid off 10 yrs ago and landed in a great spot that has been very good to me (so far)....
