Yeah, I saw him with Edgar Winter at Hershey Park Stadium. It was my very first (of many...) concerts and the bill was, Gary Wright (Dreamweaver), The Edgar Winter Band, and The J. Geils Band. Later I saw Ronnie Montrose with the band Montrose at The Tower Theater, he opened for Van Halen (their first tour, I think), and Journey (who I believe was the headliner...) RIP Ronnie...

Very sad... I loved his playing. I wore out my copy of the first Gamma LP!

Wow, very sad news. I know he had a great career with his own band, but I once spent a very magical summer wearing out "They Only Come Out at Night" by the Montrose-fueled Edgar Winter Band, and that's what I remember him from the most. A great musician!

I also discovered Ronnie by way of the "Guitar Speak" instrumental piece, "Blood Alley 152"...slightly different version of the song posted above. Having come into hard rock/metal around 1982, my knowledge of the genre is strong from that point forward but it took many years to thoroughly explore the back-catalog. Thanks to the No Speak series and that one song, I found an amazing player and a lot of great rock-n-roll guitar work. I always feel a bit of personal pain when I hear of another of my heros' passing. This was no exception. I hope Ronnie's family and friends find some solace in the words of adoration posted on this and the many other forums now buzzing with the unfortunate news.

Ronnie was truly a inspiration with his music. The first two albums are classics for all time. I had the pleasure of getting to know him when I built Ronnie his rifle guitar around 1984 . He liked to sign off his e-mail with "peace"

Still listening to Ronnie regularly since my introduction to the first album. Another huge loss to music and his fans. RIP Ronnie.

I can't imagine the early Edgar Winter Group without Ronnie's great playing. Later, I got into the Gamma LP as well as his solo work. Really cool guitarists who left behind lots of great stuff for us to remember him by! :-)
