Strat Single Coil Baseplate

I did a search on the subject and found a number of good threads, but no polls. I got really good information from the a poll thread where I asked about the RWRP middle pickup.

Here is a little background on my strat. I have an American strat with a maple neck. It currently has Suhr FL standard pickups in it. I am going to be taking out the RWRP middle pickup and putting in a standard middle. I have already tied the 2nd tone pot to the bridge pickup, but its still a bit thin for my tastes. My other 2 strats have humbuckers in the bridge, but I want to keep this guitar with 3 Single coils.

I have already purchased the baseplate, but just looking for more feedback on any negatives. I wasn't really expecting the unwanted tonal change I got from changing to the RWRP middle pickup.

BTW just for clarity, position 2 is the switch position where the bridge and middle are active.

My response doesn't fit in any of your preceding categories:
Had on strat bridge, but removed because I didn't notice any sound change, it made it more difficult to use my Suhr BPSSC and it made it impossible to push down the G pole magnet.

I've got baseplates on maybe 75% of the bridge pups on my Strats.

I don't know if "thickening" is how I'd describe the difference. I just find they sound a little more like a Tele bridge pickup and they sound more "useful" and it takes care of that dreadful sound we often associate with stock Strat bridge single coils.

HOWEVER, nothing scientific here because I've also changed the wiring so the 2d tone dial only operates the bridge pickup now ( and in some cases this is a no load pot also). I have no way of knowing anymore, where the changes associated with the base plate end and where the changes associated with the changed tone pots (and other assorted mods) ends.

I am planning to get a Backplate, now offered by Ilitch http://www.ilitchelectronics.com/bac...lingsystem.htm, so this is great info.

A baseplate is compatible with the Illitch BPSSC. You just need a separate grounding wire. I didn't mean to discourage you from trying it.

Thanks for confirming. I think right now I am going to try the baseplate and put back in the non-RWRP middle pickup. I will get the BPSSC backplate later.

Callaham has them. http://www.callahamguitars.com/parts...ds_electronics

Also google Lindy Fralin Baseplate. that is the one I have.

I would also recommend, besides a Backplate against hum (highly recommended!), changing the bridge pickup to a Suhr V60LP, great combination with a neck and middle FL. In my opinion, this bridge pickup doesn't really need a baseplate, just the middle tone control wired to it.

I see the V60LP has a little higher DC resistance at 7.2kohms for the bridge, does that translate into a little thicker sound?

I do also have a Fender Custom Shop '54 bridge floating around, but I thought for the bridge only position the Suhr FL standard sounded better.

I put a Callaham plate on a Tex-Mex bridge, but at the same time I also moved the second tone pot.

What ever did it, the sound was improved. I'd have to say Pos 2 got impacted because the bridge sounds different and the tone was moved, so why wouldn't it?
