best small ch/switching amp-Mesa 5:25 1x10
Hi all. Looking for suggestions on a small (under 40 lbs.) channel switching amp. No high gain needed. Must have amazing cleans and amazing mild /medium gain channel. I have a chance at a Mesa 5:25 1x10. Wondering about those. Please help!

You will find both good and bad reviews on these. The bad reviews tend to be from the people who want really high gain (metal). The 5:25 doesn't do the modern metal tone well. It does, however, do clean and mild/mid gain really, really well. I should never have sold mine. FYI, it takes on a remarkably different character when run into an extension cab with a 12" speaker. Pushing more air, the amp sounds quite a bit more aggressive in the bottom end.

In that category, I much prefer the Fender Supersonic V22 1x12 combo. It's probably the same weight (maybe lighter), 2 channels, Fender cleans and great gain tones.

Hi,
I've got the 5:25 1x10 and owned the Supersonic 60. The Mesa is great, 4 usable modes all with varying levels of gain, up to 80s metal. The vintage mode is a bit hissy but sounds great. The Supersonic I owned was the 60, so not a direct comparison, but while the clean was very nice the gain channel was flabby in comparison to the Mesa. Surprisingly enough the reverb on the Mesa was better too. It does seem the SS22 has more fans than the SS60 does, so maybe the 22 is a better amp.
