NAD! Carr Raleigh...the most glorious 3 watts in history
http://imgur.com/a/zUX66
Absolutely perfect for home playing. The cleans are simply gorgeous and I feel like I can finally hear my guitar's voice. The master volume is switchable on/off and when turned on it kicks in a second pre-amp tube acting as a gain stage that allows you to get such crunchy, raunchy tube breakup overdriven tones...pure rock and roll. All available at conversation levels. Incredible, truly. Can definitely get loud if you need it to but equally amazing at bedroom level. Super responsive to guitar controls...using the volume on my guitar I can ride the sweet spot and get either clean with a little hair or nice grit with some great overdrive when you dig in. The only flaw I can think of is that the master volume isn't foot switchable. Only a matter of convenience though. That's my PRS Mira in there too. No pedals for me. Before I got this baby I didn't understand how a lot of those terms, like raunchy, could apply to a sound. Now I know. Now I know. edit: Thanks to vparikh on these forums who sold it to me. Smooth easy transaction and I am definitely satisfied with the product! |

Nice! It kind of reminds me of the Star Nova, but with better gain tones. You should think about investing in a Celstion G10 Gold for it. They add a lot of chime. Here's a sample clip of my Nova with one:http://snd.sc/wZ7KOy

Congrats - I am a big fan of the Raleigh.
I wish they would figure out some way to put a simple short reverb tank in it but oh well. I was in Make N' Music Chicago last weekend and played several Carr amps (have owned a Rambler and Mercury). The Raleigh is just pure tone, the clean channel is so warm and juicy and the gain channel is just fun every once in a while. A true Jekyll & Hyde amp though I would probably play it mostly clean with pedals. Seems like a great recording amp and even though its only 3 watts I was dimming it in a sound room and it surly would keep up with a live drummer for a jam/practice and would probably work fine miced up live. The only challenge is reverb/delay should you want to use the dirty channel with reverb. The amps dirty channel didn't sound horrible with a reverb pedal in front but it wasnt ideal either. The reverb pedal into the clean channel was just amazing sounding (tried with a Holy Grail), the amp wasn't missing anything tone wise then. I plan on picking one up in the near future, most fun amp ive played in a long time. |
