It was a great winter - it snowed, what, 2-3 times? - but it definitely doesn't feel right/natural. I just hope the summer isn't a billion degrees and miserable.

Relax. When I was a kid we were headed into another ice age. Now they're telling us it's warming.

It's the weather. It changes. Always has. Last year it was like, "Where the heck did all this snow come from?"

This^^^^

We have had this sort of winter in the past, even if it was back in the 1930s or so. Folks were likely asking that same question then.
Between that time and now we have had all kinds of variables including vastly cold winers and record snowfalls.
It all has to do with the jet stream and weather or not artic air can move south. The jet stream has an ocilation dip and depending on where that sits it either blocks the arctic air as in this past year, or it allows it to stream down across the US.
Because we had alot fewer flows from that north and northwest direction, not only was it warmer, but also we had very little snow generated off of the great lakes. Those lakes evaporate into the cold dry arctic air and dump south and west of the routine flow of cold dry air.
It is all just due to the location of that one jet stream ocilation. Simple and has happened before but just not too often over the decades.

I don't understand these complex words.

Here in Indy, starting Monday, we were expected to have 9 days in a row in the 70s... 20 to 22 degrees above average. They kept inching today's predicted high up. As of last night, it's supposed to hit 77 which will be two degrees short of the record.

The only outfits complaining about this winter are ski and energy. Not having a lot of sympathy for the later.

I was hoping for at least a week of sub zero temps to kill off bugs. Unfortunately they have been active almost all winter and we'll have an explosion of ticks, spiders and mosquitoes. Hell even the black flies are coming early

A couple of events that stand out in my memory. The first was 1976 in mid April for 4 consecutive days we had temps in the low to mid 90's for about 4 days in Danbury, CT so this has happened many times before. In March of 1991 (the year my daughter was born) we had 5 days of temps in the low 80's. In 2010 in very early April we had temps in the low 90's for 3 days. Last year on this day it was 22 degrees and we were still a foot deep in snow. It's the weather and it changes.

Before the whole you-know-what debate starts again, let's remember that there's difference between weather and climate. We're currently experiencing warm weather.

I have a friend in Japan that has posted that some of the regions in Japan have had record snowfall. We get the mild here, they get the brutals there.
