A GSP Wah Question

I'm also just taking delivery on a GSP in a few days. Having owned a RP1000
for a while I'm somewhat familiar with the programming. But I do have a question about using an expression pedal for the wah. I have a Roland which I think will work but if the expression pedal doesn't have an actual on/off button won't the wah always be engaged? what do you guy's use ?
Thanks.

I believe you can program the GSP to engage the wah automatically when the pedal is moved beyond a specified point. You'll need the MustBeBeta C63 update. Check out the MIDI TOE SWITCH FOR WAH/WHAMMY section in the C63 version notes.

I never tried it, but can you use the control switch to activate the wah as well?

Yes. I have a patch where I use the control switch to turn on the wah and change a couple of other settings.

In all honesty, I don't use the built in wah in the GSP. I much prefer to use a real wah pedal. I have yet to hear a modeler that has a wah that sounds as good as a real wah.

I use mine with a Ground Control Pro and 2 HEX pedals. I'm able to get the wah to auto engage by assigning a midi CC to the wah pedal parameter and changing the engage parameter to "range" with the threshold at set at 1 (instead of using the toe switch). This uses one link to both engage the wah and sweep it. To bypass you leave the wah in the toe up position. This can also be done with the whammy pedal functions.

I think you can do something similar using your Roland expression pedal.

The auto-engage for the wah was meant for MIDI CC commands and works very well with an expression pedal on a MIDI controller. I posted a workaround on the mustbebeta site for using a simple expression pedal. It's not the ultimate solution but you can try it and see if it works well enough for you.
It's posted by "Saber" in this thread:

Otherwise, something like a DigiTech FS300 would do the job and you would have 2 additional footswitches.

Hmm, I think the wahs sound really good.
That's one of the things that impressed me when I upgraded from my old ValveFX to the 1101.

Cool thanks so far for the info, so you have to have the musbebeta installed? I do plan on doing that, but I'm all Mac and from what I understand is that it's just a windows upgrade?
The auto engage via a midi cc sounds like the ticket.
