I don't know, but I would think that the intent of the video is to help sell guitars...after all, it's a dealer and he's selling these...right?

I was a bit nervous to share this because it does show my honest love and enthusiasm for guitars in a pretty unfiltered way. But hey, life is short, so you might as well have many things that can excite your "foolish heart". Just a bit about myself: I am a professional guitarist who toured and recorded with Elton John, Edgar Winter, Roberta Flack, Diana Ross to name a few. My recording life led me to opening a Snyder Music in the 90's which was a very successful company that wrote and produced music for advertising. During all those years I was very active in R&D for builders such as Roger Sadowsky, Linda Manzer, Pete Cornish & John Monteleone . Having grown up in Philadelphia the son a a musician and music store owner I have been surrounded by great guitars my whole life. All this background led me to open CR Guitars about a year ago. My desire is to share only the finest gear in an inspiring environment. You are all welcome to stop by.

Which is its own form of "acting," no?

Oh, absolutely! But Craig didn't post the video in this forum. Someone else did, and that someone has no financial or other interest in either the builder or the shop. Other than that he owns a few of said builder's guitars himself, but hell that's what this particular forum is all about, isn't it?

"Acting"? Sure, why not...

I don't have an issue with the video, and I know the OP isn't the person who posted the video. Love the JG guitars from what I've seen, they appear to be spectacular and I'd like to check one out myself one day. I'm not cynical enough to believe that the OP was shilling the business or the builder, though that does happen on a pretty regular basis on this forum. There is a fine line, at times, between someone getting excited about their new piece of gear and someone that posts threads with the base intention of promoting the product.

There are several people...and a couple manufacturers here...where pushing the product is paramount and the love of the gear is a distant second.

Pretty sure I would be just as excited over either one of those amazing guitars, especially the vintage cherry. Unfortunately unless I win the lotto there is little to no chance of that happening.

Collectors/investors do have an interest in keeping values up. There are many ways to do this here, and not in the dealer section.

Apologies in advance to the OP for this thread derail, but I'm gonna respond to the pot-shot quoted above.

I'm not sure anyone can pinpoint the line between legitimately sharing one's interest/excitement and attempting to "keep values up." That accusation seems to get thrown around a lot more on threads about things like Gustavssons and Two-Rocks, i.e., on threads concerning brands whose prices *seem* higher than ordinary, than it does on threads concerning MIM Fenders. Can't imagine why.

I dunno... ...among the vocal JG owners here, I don't know a single one who's all that concerned about "keeping values up," mainly cos for most of 'em the value of a Bluesmaster is simply not all that much money in the grand scheme of things. Certainly that's true of the OP. And if the enthusiastic ravings of a particular TGP member *do* seem have such an effect, I think there are probably a whole host of other things going on.

The market value of an instrument may fluctuate some in the short term due to that sort of thing or some other unusual circumstances (such as when Scott Chinery died and the resulting flood of archtops on the market made values go down), but in the long term they tend to stabilize according to the instrument's TRUE value, which is determined by a marketplace much larger than one or a few owners. Well, unless the owner is a rock star or sufficiently well-endowed to create a severe shortage of supply by buying up a significant percentage of the available instruments.

In any event, the particular guitar that is the subject of the OP video is a brand-new model. It doesn't have an established market value, and it won't for a while yet. JG has a well-earned rep for quality, so the opening price will be consistent with what you'd expect to pay for a new Bluesmaster '59 Custom. Will it stay there? Will it command a premium on the used market? Nobody knows, and nobody has a whole lot of control over that.

Well said Kingsley! I don't really care what the price of used JGs goes to - I'm not selling mine unless another JG is involved in the deal.

I've been JG-less for short periods of time and will not be so in the future. My fave guitar - aside from my Futura (totally different beast). And yes maybe even more so than my great 56 conversion

I don't own a JG guitar, have no financial interest in any way with JG guitars or CR Guitars. But I do know Craig. He's a friend of mine. And his enthusiasm for guitars - not just those in the video - is for real. More than being a great guitarist and musician, he's truly passionate about the instrument. That video is who Craig is. I'd always thought these pages were supposed to be all about loving guitars and their ancillary equipment. Why can't you just share in his real enjoyment of seeing a great guitar for the first time? Haven't we all felt that way?

Dug the vid and the vibe, and I have next to no interest in owning 'shorter' scale-length guitars.

Regarding smell, I feel the same way about nitro- or shellac-finished guitars (hence my comment in a recent DeLap thread).

Ditto!

That said, I'm still slightly bemused by the fact that I just spent nearly 11 minutes watching a video of an old bald guy open shipping cartons—and that I enjoyed every second.

Maybe there is something to this "reality TV" business after all!

(Oh, and that heritage cherry semi-hollow? Simply gorgeous...)

So----- thats how they pack a $12k guitar for shipment??? Seems like an all round bigger box would allow for some "shock absorbing" bubble wrap oppertunities??? Is there a strategy, other than cost, to the way they were packed???
