Tele, what to look for?

I'm thinking of taking the plunge and buying a tele, I've been a grestch guy for some time and want something different now.

Few questions,
More for indie/post rock music, looking round 1k, Where do I start? What do I look for?

I know this comes up a lot but should I go with American or Mexico? Really want something that will work stock.

Zoo many choices...

Look for an old used really beat up guitar. If it's really beat up, it's 'coz it is a GREAT instrument and gets played a lot. And it already has more character than a relic.

In a tele, that is honestly what I think I'd look for.

Yup-The above posts have it right.
Since a Tele is such a basic 'wood n wires' guitar used and played is the way to go.
For the record-I've never come across a MIJ double bound '62 reissue that wasn't a monster.
No idea why but they seem to have knocked it out of the park with every darned one they made of that model.
