Anyone have the Boss GT-100 yet?

The other thread is HUGE. Just want to know if someone bought it and what are their thoughts. Peace.

I don't have one yet, but I do want to try it out when it arrives in my area. Here is a new sample someone posted on YouTube.

I don't think they're shipping yet. I've heard release dates ranging from April to June. Clips I've heard sound promising!

June? It's already available in Japan, so it shouldn't take that long.

Our ETA says end of March but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Shouldn't be long though if it's out in Japan.

Picked one up last nite at GC....havn't had much time to research it yet; only made it through some presets and fiddled with a couple dry patches adding 'verb and delay. Keep in mind my attitude is dreary going into the experiment as I always want these to sound and feel better than they usually do...but initial impressions are the EFX are much deeper than GT-10 with 'verbs and delays that were much more spacious.....I found a couple really cool 5150 and Soldano based patches that were very nice, a couple clean as well, but I havn't delved into making my own patches up yet, just havn't had but about 45 minutes on the machine. The two screens is a nice thing though, as you can hit the effect button, dial up the efx chain on the left screen: turn any on or off, and then the parameters of whatever effect you are in at the time show up on the other screen; that's kinda cool in keeping track of where you are in the editing process. Keep in mind, I'm always seeking these things to be a reasonable replacement for real pedals into tube combo to ease live giggage, they always sound cooleo at home, and then not so much with other instruments, IMHO... Much more research required, but check your local GC's as they are starting to trickle in. I was playing into power amp return of my Hot Rod Deluxe with V30 and the man-cave is not real big, so volume is somewhat tame....but still healthy. Didn't try headphone out, or looper or any of the more unusual stuff. Seems well built, manual is much smaller; about half the size of my ME70 manual....that's my initial trial.....until I can compare it with other stuff, it's an experiment in progress....but they are trickling into the GCs....

Bingo.. this is exactly why I use floor units like the GT series and M13, HD500 etc. I am eager to hear a review from anyone who has run the GT100 into the inputs of a good tube amp or even a Roland Cube. I've got loads of real pedals for reference but for the kind of music I gig.. instant recall of different stompbox chains is a must.

Roland has been rehashing for sooooo long. I don't have high expectations.

But..... I'm sure I'll buy one to try out....

I picked one up today. It's going back. But, not because I don't think it sounds good. It's going back because I already have the VG-99 and the GT-100 doesn't seem to have any sonic improvements over the VG-99. Plus the VG-99 is much more powerful.

The GT-100 boots up in "Plug me into a JC120" mode - so if you plug it into a FRFR speaker it's going to sound like canned ass - switch the output mode to headphone/line.

Roland has outdone themselves with craptacular patches once again. Patch after patch of cocked wah distorted tones. Fortunately, the GT-100 is capable of sounding pretty good if you go create your own patches.

Bottom line: If you didn't like any prior GT or VG Roland processor, this will be no different so spend your money elsewhere. If you have and like an existing GT/VG - you'd have to try it to see if there's a win for you or not. If you liked but no longer have a GT/VG, this is a pretty good unit to pickup.

I have owned the GT-10. I thought the COSM stuff was the worst amp modeling I had ever heard, and it hasn't been updated much over the years.

That's a funny expression!
I think there is one single person who dials in all the presets for every company out there.
Sometimes that bastard has a really bad day.
Any new fx?

I don't think there's any new effects - I didn't notice any. All the same effects from the past hundred years of Boss COSM modeling devices are all there

Is Zoom even a contender? I last owned their stuff in the 90s and never looked back.

In Boss' defense, what effects are missing from the GT? The only thing I can possible think of would be a bit crusher and true polyphonic octave processing (though the GT-10 wasn't actually that bad at octaves). Boss has a history on including some esoteric stuff most companies omit. They are the only company in the ~$500 range to the best of my knowledge which offer sitar simulation, a "freeze" effect (sound hold), and the excellent tracking wave synth (the stuff in the HD doesn't come close to the tracking accuracy).

That said, I do find it annoying that Boss (and Digitech) sell stompboxes with features not included in their flagship processors (or which have been ignored entirely).
