What kind of locks are you using now? I can't imagine locks plus the washers coming even close to fitting if you're talking about Schallers or Dunlop Dual's.

I went to the plumbing aisle at Lowes and bought a package of plactic washers. I cut a wedge shaped section out of then that was just big enough to let them snap onto the strap button over the strap. Then I took a permanent black marker (think Sharpie ect) and colored the whole washer.

I've had Schallers wear out and let go. Now no more Schallers. The Grolsh washers work like a dream on stock Fender strap buttons, and you get beer with them! The only other strap locks I'll use are the Dunlops, I'm going on 10 years without a single problem with them on my main guitar.

I use rubber washers I got at the local hardware store. They're about an inch in diameter and stretch just enough for the center hole to pass over my strap buttons.

i use loxx strap locks.. but am considering putting the washers right over them...because the other day my strap fell off of the strap lock. They also have metal washers which I can imagine being the best option.

i used to use the grolsch washers, but i heard stories of them causing strap-buttons to come unscrewed and eventually cause stripping. . .

The Grolsch washers shouldn't unscrew the strap locks. They aren't that tight. They will stretch some and can get loose enough to come off. Also they dry out in time. They are a nice lock tho, but you have to continually replace them after several months..cheap enough tho..

I can see how you might be able to use both but I imagine it would be a clunky solution at best. I'd use either just the grolsch or perhaps try a different lock design like the Dunlops. The nice thing about the grolsch is you're using as little parts as possible which should help eliminate potential failure points.

If they're on there really tight, the natural movement of the strap can for sure work the screw loose. I've found it to be more of a problem on the rear of the guitar versus the horn.

I haven't had any issues with mine drying-out and I've had the same set on for 3 years. I'm in Southern California, so maybe somewhere that uses indoor heating often, may cause a problem.

If they're good enough for Nels Cline and Johnny Marr...

I just get similar sized metal washers from Lowes. It works perfectly on all my guitars except for my SG, where there isn't enough room in the case to leave the strap on.

Ditto. Los Angeles. I've had the same set for over 5 years actually. One thing to note --- unless the guitar is in for some serious work, I never remove the washers or the strap. I keep the strap attached in its case when not in use, so they never stretch out. I've also never had my strap even slightly come loose.

The Dunlop Lok Strap discs seem to work pretty well for me. They're $1.25 each at a local guitar shop. I have trouble getting the Grolsch washers to seat properly with some thicker straps.

Straplock + beer...... Grolsch wins! I have them on all my guitars except the Rickenbackers which came with Schallers. Over a year - they're still nice and pliable.

Whoever came up with this, thanks!
