Exploring some new strings for archtop jazz: Seeking some input

Hi,

I have been happy playing 3 types of strings over the last decade on my archtop to play jazz.

· Thomastik-Infeld - Bebop BB113 .013-.053 (round wounds)
· Sadowsky - Jimmy Bruno Signature SGPR-JB13 .013-.053 (half wounds)
· Thomastik-Infeld – Jazz Swings BB113 .013-.053 (flat wounds)

I switch between these every once in a while depending how much I am playing acoustically or plugged in. I had tried some D’Addario and GHS alternatives some years back and preferred what I am playing currently. There are a few strings sets out there that I can considering to try and I wanted to reach to the forum before ordering them to see if others have experience with any of these and could over some comment in terms of their tone, tension and longevity?

· John Pearse - Nickel Wound Jazz 2900.013-.056 (round wounds)
· La Bella - Nickel Plated Round Wound EL-JM.013-.056 (round wounds)
· Newtone - Archtop Nickel AM-M.013-.056 (round wounds)
· La Bella - Flat Wounds 20PM .013-.053 (flat wounds)
· Pyramid - Gold Pure Nickel Flat Wound GF613 .013-.052 (flat wounds)

Thanks,

Bob

I have used Newtone Rounds and the Black Nylon tape Labellas

Newtones sound great acoustically (on my Epi EmpReg which is not great acoustically). What I didnt like about them was they seem to be lower tension than the TIs (and considerably lower than the labellas). There seemed to be much more string noise, even for round wounds. I liked them and played them to death, but when they were done I went back to the labellas

If you dont get many answers here try sigining up to jazzguitar.be (and post in the guitar/amps/gizmos section..) they answer this question (actually beat it to death) about once ever 2 weeks.
