DR Pure Blues String breakage problems..

I recently bought a 5 pack of the DR Pure Blues #10 strings..

I thought i would give them a try because i liked what there add had to say..

I normally use Ernie Ball 10's or Hybreds..

I can't remember the last time i broke a string ..But since i strung up two guitars with the DR Pure Blues last Thursday i have broke 3 high E strings 2 G strings and a B string..

I do like the way they sound but this is a little to much breakage..

Is there such a thing as a bad batch of strings?

Has anyone else had this problem with them?

I used DRs for three years. Broke strings constantly. I had to bring three guitars to an average gig. Thought it had to be me. The last straw was a show where I broke a string on three different guitars with three different bridges (Hamer sustain block, Tele and Les Paul w/stop and tuna).
Never again.

Use Markley Blue Steels and D'Addarios and haven't broken a single string in five years.

That's odd. I've been using Pure Blues for a very long time and have never broken a string.

I've had other issues with them but never string breakages in over a year of use. I will mention that certain issues with your guitar will be exacerbated by pure nickel round core strings; they have less tension so they point out imperfections in your guitar more easily.

Yep. Me too.

On the other hand, I did encounter the D string intonation problem about 2 weeks ago. I love the way the Pure Blues feel and sound but I just don't trust them anymore. I don't understand why they can't fix this D string tuning issue.

Horrible strings! And I don't say that lightly. The string tension is all over the board from string to string! I put them on my Les Paul, and cut them off 2 days later. I mean really? Back to D'addario's for me. If they're good enough for Robben....

I used DR PBs for years on my tele and never had a problem with breakage. And I regularly pull 1.5 and 2 note bends.

I switched to Pyramids a couple of months ago, primarily because they last so long.

But I use DRs when the Pyramids are out of stock, which is frustratingly frequent. Love the tone.

I liked the tone too, but I'll never use them again. Too inconsistent. Not sure if it's poor quality control or manufacturing, but even guys who argued with me (including the dealer who I bought them from) had to eventually agree that they break far more than any other manufacturer's strings.

D'Addarios are cheap and I don't think last as long or sound as good as the Dean Markleys do, but I'd use those when I don't have the Blue Steels around.

I also bend strings a LOT and the DRs just did not hold up.

I think they just need more slack. Some brands just dont hold up to the same amount of tension as others. I always make sure to get at least 4 wraps around the post for wound strings and at least 6 for the plain ones. That way, you've got enough slack to ensure they will be able to find a tension level they can handle.

Yeah I have never encounter string breakage or intonation problem either.

You have to remember that DR Strings are Round Core string not Hex Core like all the other brands (with exception to Pyramid and few others that you use round core as well).

I always loved the tone of the Pure Blues and used 'em for years and years... When I started using them, I had never met anyone else who had. They are great sounding strings... I've never broken one myself, but then I've broken maybe three strings in my life. I've had the intonation problem with them, though.

Ever since I got my Gilmour strat a few years back I've switched to the Gilmour set GHS strings on everything. They sound pretty good still, and they feel great and stay wonderfully in tune and never break. So... I was a die-hard DR guy and now I've moved to GHS. That's my story
