Drain filter caps in Maz 18

So I've been told that I can drain the filter caps in my Maz 18 by unplugging the power and switching "on" and "stanby" on and leaving the amp plugged in to the speaker for 10 minutes to drain the caps.

I will double check with a volt meter and then I was thinking that I should try drain an additional power by clipping an alligator clip from pin 1 of V1 to the chassis. I'm a bit confused about clipping to pin 1. Do i clip the alligator clip to the actual tube socket or the pin on the turret board that is connect to pin 1 of V1?

here is a gut shot. V1 is on the far right. can someone show where i should connect the alligator clip?

Connect one end of your clip right on pin 1 of the tube socket. Where your black wire is connected. Clip the other end the the chassis.

Make sure you are using pin 1 or just probe 1 and 8 to make sure you drained the right pin. Double check voltages on the pins with a meter.

why pin 1? i've always drained the actual filter caps. but most amps i've poked around in had resistors off the filter caps to drain themselves anyways.

Because pin 1 has the plate resistior and you can drain the amp down slowly. Instead of grounding out the the filter cap and getting a big pop and maybe possibility harming the filter cap. make sure the standby switch is on when you drain the amp down

Or you can just turn the amp off while the tubes are hot and the standby is in "play" position. It will drain completely.

This. Measure for yourself. It works.
