Any opinions on the Eminence 1258 Legend Speakers or the eminence legend series in general?

The 1258 is one of the darker Legends. I can hear little difference between it and the Fender spec speakers that comes in all the Hot Rod series amps.
The Eminence website has sound samples.

I am in love with my closed back Avatar Traditional 2x12 cabinet with Emi GB128's in it. I bought the cabinet as an open backed cabinet and thought it sounded pretty good but just kept thinking that something was missing. I put a closed back panel on the back and BAM it sounds incredible with Marshall type tones. I love the crunch in these speakers.

The GB128 is very different from the 1258. They do sound great from what I've heard online.

I use a 1258 in my '64 Deluxe (non-reverb) and pair one with a RWB in my silverface Pro Reverb.

They work very well, particularly in open-back Fender type amps.

1258s

I am currently running two 1258s in my Gibson G-70. I also tried pairing it with a rajun cajun and a canabis rex in the same amp, but I went back to the pair, which gives me what I am looking for. I did not like it in my Gibbie Mariner, and settled on a Jensen CRN series. For the money, the legends are a good value.

The Emi Legend V128 sounds like a winner from what I've heard in shootouts. I have a 1258 and it's too dark for me, very close to the Fender Emi's, which I have also never been able to bond with. Of course it all depends on amp, cab, volume, style, personal preference, gain, etc.
To illustrate my point, check out this shootout. My favorite tones were the complete opposite of the testers.

The GB is a non-doped British coned speaker with fairly quick breakup and a lot of bottom end, not overly bright by any means.

I think 4 of these in a 4x12 can be a bit overkill on the bottom end, definitely okay mixed in 2x12's and very good in many 1x12's but not a chimey bright speaker.

The 125 to my ears is a sort of standard American ribbed cone speaker designed for modern bright piercing amps, they do mix well with other speakers and have better clarity once they are broken in well, but definitely not overly bright at all!
