NPD: Strymon El Cap!

So my first every Strymon product is coming in the mail tomorrow - the famed El Cap! It's going to replace my Nova delay. I mainly play at church, and keep a DD-5 on my board for dotted-eighth stuff, so the El Cap will mainly be for quarter note or washy delay with the multi-head setting.

Anyway, since the El Cap is coming tomorrow, and I have to play at church on Sunday, I won't have a ton of time to mess around with it before I'll need to use it live. (I sold & shipped my Nova this week).

So if you have any tips on settings, or if there's a special power supply requirement (I have a VL PP2+), let me know!

use the 250 mA taps on the PP2+ (pretty sure it's #5 & #6).

This.

CONGRATS!! Love my El Cap... it's just so great to have the tape echo (nuances and all) in a little box like this! The Sound on Sound looper makes for some serious fun as well, so spend some time tinkering with that in your spare noodling. I don't really have any sort of favorite settings, although the majority of the time I use it, it's in Single mode B. Single mode A is higher fidelity repeats with shorter delay time, mode B is a little more lo-fi/artifacts beginning to show in the trails with longer delay times. I like the repeats to roll off on some of the high end, so I increase tape age to about 10 o'clock, and add a touch of tape crinkle (secondary function on WOW & Flutter). Adjust Wow & Flutter to taste, and have fun!!!

One thing about this pedal, there are always new sounds you can find just by tweaking and adjusting. Spend some time doing that when you get it!

As suggested, you can use the PP2+ with outlets 5 or 6 but also make sure your dip switches are all set to the normal position. We actually have an FAQ on this. Here's the link: http://www.strymon.net/?qa_faqs=can-...-pedal-power-2

Congrats on your new El Capistan!

Rick

Anyone seen the video demo for the timeline that strymon has on their site? great video! I haven't played these yet, but have heard nothing but great things about them.

I also replaced my Nova with an El Cap a while ago. I remember plugging it and and strumming a few chords and playing a few notes then letting out a huge sigh and thinking....finally I'm hearing the delay I've been searching for.
I sure your experience will be similar.

I've had the El Cap for a few hours now. Wow. This is what a delay should sound like! It's so musical / organic / natural sounding. Not digital. Maybe that's tape delay in general, but I think that a bad take on old equipment can be horrible. But Strymon got this right!

So with the El Cap and DD-5 on my board, I've got a few options. Would also love to have an analog delay with tap too, like the Diamond ML Jr. But then I wonder if I shouldn't just get a Timeline?

Of course I had all of these options with my Nova, but there wasn't a single sound on that thing that I liked.

THIS for sure! 12v will fry the El Capistan. I'd even suggest using a meter to make sure you are on 9V.
