Exclamation Surprise NGD!

Yesterday was wild. Went to church and got all my gear set up in the Fellowship Hall, along with my big bass rig I was lending our bassist, and then worked on getting the PA all connected. Two hours into that our band leader arrived and said we were playing... in the sanctuary!

D'OH!

So, I moved everything over to the sanctuary.

Then we're about to start practice, and our band leader says, "Brian, we have something for you."

I'm totally puzzled.

He gets out an Epi hardshell case and sets it on a table and says "Open it."

I look at him like whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? So I say, "I hope this is something you got for the church..."

I open the case and it's an Epiphone Casino. Last weekend someone had asked what my next guitar would be, and I said I hadn't bought a guitar in 2 years and wouldn't any time soon, but that there was a sweet Casino on Craigslist.

The nutters bought it for me! He said "It's for your birthday next month, but we thought we'd give it to you early so you could play it at Praise In The Field (our next out-of-church concert downtown in a couple weeks)!"

I'm still totally flabbergasted.

Nice score!

Master volume? I never noticed that before.

We'll await the next series of gig pics starring it.

Sharp eyes, thanks.

I'm still gobsmacked, as our Limey brethren would put it.

MIK 1997 Epiphone Casino from the Peerless Factory. Bigsby and Rio Grande Blues Dog P-90 in the neck. Master volume, Grover tuners and Graphtech saddles added. Previous owner somehow disabled the toggle, but I'll get that fixed eventually.

Played it this morning at Sunrise, will play at our outdoor downtown show on 4/21 for sure.

I really kinda feel unworthy and embarrassed, haha! I have a ton of guitars already, so they knew I didn't really need another guitar (not that it's usually about need, izzit?).

They are great kids, just about all actually young enough to BE my kids.

Played it at Sunrise this morning. Really low action for a Bigsby'd hollowbody. Of my 3 Bigsby guitars, this one works the smoothest.

Thanks.

Congrats on the new guitar!! That's an awesome story.

Interesting placement of the master volume. There's a guy who was recently playing with Gregg Allman and he used one of those newer smaller bodied Gibson 335 looking things and he had a volume pot put in at the end of the f-hole on the treble side so he could work it with his pinky. I thought it was a novel idea.

P90s, Bigsby, master volume.....how can you go wrong with that?
