Tell me more about Johnny A.
I've had his cd Get Inside for a long time, and I recently pulled it back out. I forgot how much I like it. Are his other recordings as good? Anyone seen him live recently?

What rug is he using on Get Inside? Is it his dig. Model guitar? What amp? Sounds great.

A very fine guitarist/musician indeed! Love his cd's as well , very listenable over and over! Great tone, and like George Harrison, plays the melody as well as melodically. I believe he runs his signature guitar , pedals, into 100 watt Anniversary model 1x12" Marshall. But instead of using the E.V. 12", he goes line out to the board and relies on monitor speakers instead.

This was his rig at one time. He now goes in to a G-System with 2 or 3 Tube Drivers in the loop, into a Marshall JMP-1 Pre and out to the house system. |

IMO STM is the better of the two. It's a monster album and showcases his range of styles. Get inside is very derivative of the first record. One November night is good, especially if you've never seen him.
John caresses every single note he plays and his phrasing is second to none. There are many flashier and more technical players out there, but his tunes just reach a higher level. I can't get enough of his playing. |

There is a tour of his gear on youtube as well as 3 or 4 of the cuts from the Instructional DVD. Searching for Hip Bone or Oh Yeah should find it.

Hasn't it been a while since he released anything?
Love his playing, btw. But who doesn't? |

Big fan here too. Hearing his rendition of Wichita Lineman really blew my mind. It really renewed my faith in beautiful melodic guitar melodies that weren't jazz complex or Satriani saturated. I had a "Wow, I can do that" moment as well. Was seriously thinking at one time about sticking Bigsby's on every guitar I had. I had total contempt for Bigsby's until hearing him use one, now I love them. Oh, and flatwounds as well.

Based on his Twitter feed, it seems like he is currently in the process of recording new music.

I wish I could tell you more but I don't much about him other than Get Inside and Sometime Tuesday Morning. I really like the albums and his beautiful melodic style of guitar.
Thanks for not making the thread title "school me on Johnny A".

I have one of his sig guitars and it is one of the best ever. And I have owned 100's!~ He played a little club where I worked twice. Saw him up close and personal and for me he is what guitar playing is all about at it's best!
