new digitech whammy....WH-5?

just saw this on premier guitar's facebook...

"You heard it here first: We just visited DigiTech in Sandy, Utah, and they gave us a sneak peek at their upcoming, super-cool new Whammy pedal—which features true-bypass switching and a toggle for switching between Classic and polyphonic Chords mode. Look for a review in the coming weeks!"

this looks awesome. hopefully it retains MIDI.

EDIT: more details from a digitech rep at HCFX.

It consumes roughly 100 mA DC, I'll have to check exactly how much (I'll find out and post tomorrow)
It will ship end of May, so it will be in stores the first week of June. We are building as fast as we can but supplies will be limited for the first little while.
$199.95

it is the same TB circuit as in the big brother Whammy DT.
very very very excited now.

edit: current draw is not as low as expected, but still okay.

Kinda interested. I had the Whammy IV before, and use an M5 now for pitch shifting.

Looks closer to the original aesthetics of the WH-1.

I'm really excited for this! I wish it was smaller, but the addition of true bypass is amazing, since Whammy is one of the worst tone-ruiners I've ever heard. The chords mode is really cool as well, I've been putting off getting a MicroPog because I didn't want two pitch shifters, now I can have both!

Still too big IMO...I wish they'd release one the size of the WH-1

I don't think digitech gets it. When I think Whammy, I think crazy awesome bit-crushing sounds, not polyphonic octave stuff (i.e. POG/POG2). They just seem to keep missing it for me.

To me, TB is just not that big a deal

yeah, but for not much money (<$30), you can just use a TB looper instead of forking out more money for a new Whammy

I agree, the Whammy is a good effect, but it takes too much real estate to justify keeping it on a board.

I have a PS-5 Harmonist, although I don't use it as much, the size and amount of features doesn't bother me.

Polyphonic & true bypass are great improvents.
Hopefully the treadle assembly is much beefier than the last version.
3 of those fell apart on me with normal use. I've since switched to an EX-7.

i got my WH-4 modded for true bypass for the same amount. a TB looper is more hassle with that, with the extra cables and real estate and whatnot. however that's not the main reason for my excitement. the polyphonic option and the extra whammy options (+4th, +5, -5, -4, -2) and the possibility that it's DC powered (like the DT whammy) are getting me wet. however, if it's DC powered, hopefully it doesn't require a stupid amount of ampage like the DT whammy does.

Except it still has that cheap-ass flat finish paint! The originals had a nicer looking finish.

Silly aesthetic considerations aside, I'm excited to check one of these out!!

what about the Whammy DT, it already does all that and more, but bigger.

exactly. very few people are fans of the size. and not everyone needs the drop tune function or the momentary switch. it's basically taking the best parts of the DT and putting into the WH-4 chassis.
