Exclamation Is the timeline too much for me?

Hello TGP! I am debating over getting a timeline.. should i do it or not?

mostly i play P&W, I play mostly lead from hillsong, jesus culture type of music. I love playing ambient type sounds, swells, and making atmosphere sounds. Basically as of my gear now i have for delay and reverbs are

DL4, DD5 and RV5

With the sounds of the timeline, it makes it easy to buy, but is it worth shedding half a grand on this? I use my DL4 mostly for auto volume swells along with dd5 for repeats and rv5 for modulated reverb to fill the room. Does anyone have the same experience like me?

My other plan was maybe getting a IB modified Nova Delay + Blue Sky Reverb instead together adding up around 480$ versus the timeline at 450$ but its a hard decision! Can anyone help me out!? I need someone to persuade me to get the timeline or something! I was thinking about the eventide timefactor too! but i dont know what to do!

I own a Timefactor. I mostly play P&W as well, also Hillsong/Jesus Culture type of music. I know Jeffrey Kunde uses the Timeline, but honestly the Timeline isn't that much better than the Timefactor. The Timeline DOES have an analog dry pass while the Timefactor does not, but after playing both there really isn't a noticeable difference. For what it's worth though, like the way the Timefactor is set up when using an aux switch - the banks and presets are really easy to scroll through.

I know a lot of guitar players (some very notable ones) who have owned Timelines but didn't like them (and went back to their Timefactors).

As far as money goes, for both the Timeline and Timefactor, the ~$400 is definitely worth it. They are both really, really versatile delays that can honestly inspire your playing.

I don't think you need a Timeline...I've got one and have been hesitant to jump into it because of the learning curve...why not a Stereo WET? You've got 2 delays...run your modulated RV5 into a WET--big time ambience...if it doesn't get it done, you can recoup your money by selling it...I would try the WET...

also to consider, that jefferey kunde, and the droff both have timelines now, so future songs will have sounds from the timeline, and if you want to replicate the sounds...........

I'd keep the RV-5 instead of the BSR, but that's just what I would do.

As for the timeline, it's a really powerful delay and quite impressive, but it's not for everyone. Unfortunately, it's not one of those pedals you can go and try before buying.

I found it was worth getting for me. I bought it because it replaced two other delays I was using that cost me 350 bucks (used), and for another $100 I was able to get a lot more features. In your case, you might be able to sell those pedals you have for as much as $250, so really the question is if it's worth the extra $200 for the features you don't have?

droff uses the timeline...but if you are into united's tones and delays, then just stick with what you have since they are sporting nova delays, dd5's, and m9's (mgc and dylan). all i can say is that the timeline sounds amazing and its delays are much fuller sounding....but no one is going to know which pedal you use for analog and digital quarter or dotted eighth notes in the mix.

This...I've got RV5 and BSR...I'll get flamed but if I were to sell one, it would be the BSR...the RV5 is a better pedal than you realize...if you sell it, you will want to buy it back...I did!

wow, these are really good inputs. Man, it's very hard to make this decision. I have thought about the stereo wet, but also the BSR. The reason why BSR over WET for me is i feel like the BSR has more variety than the WET for almost the same price. But i do love how the stereo wet sounds like too! and the greatma3 "no one is going to know which pedal you use for analog and digital quarter/dotted notes in the mix" that really hit home, that is a good point. yeah i'm not to sure, i feel like maybe the timeline would be little too much. I wouldn't want to replace my DL4 though just because it's been with me forever! even though i only use the auto-volume! any more thoughts?

IMO... There's really not much of a learning curve with the Timeline - and yes, it's totally worth it.

OP, I primarily play P&W, and I find it extremely worth it; tons of sounds available in this thing, and it's MIDI capabilities are priceless to me; the ability to save presets for specific set lists is HUUUGE for me. But at the root of it all, it just sounds better than any other intuitive digital delay pedal I've tried - DL4, Nova Delay, Superdelay , VMSD, Flashback, DD-20, Nova Repeater, and yes... The Timefactor. The only thing(s) the TF has over the TL is the ability to use dual delays on ANY of the modes, and I think it's digital delay is more pristine. The TL's digital delay is great as well, especially with the TL's vibrato .

Timeline is totally worth it, and yes, it really is the ultimate delay pedal. It offers more than any other delay pedal on the market, and it really isn't close.

I sold my DL4 to get the Timefactor.. one of the best things I have ever done. You can get tap subdivisions, hundreds of presets, and different/better delay sounds. The switches on the DL4 really frustrated me too, especially for tap tempo.

Also, what Delayed Delay said - you can use a dual delay on ANY mode. For example, I have a preset I use for solos that has a more distinct dotted 8th with a quieter but more feedback'd (longer trails) quarter to fill up some more space.

Yahweh;
I lead worship as well, and play at a few different churches. Lots of variety, including jesus culture and hillsong united.
I own the timeline... yes there's a lot in there.. but its worth it.. and you will be challenged to discover new ways of using your delay.

It's not worth $500, IMHO.

The Nova iB modified is something like $189 at PGS now. That plus your DD-5 and RV-5 will give you everything you need. Throw in a MasterTap from JHV3 for another $60 or so and you can even sync them up for some beautiful Hillsong galloping delays.

It sounds like you want a Timeline.

If you can afford it, get it.
