New Telecaster Decision

Hey All!

I am putting up this thread as I need some help in deciding which Telecaster to get. The two options are the Vintage by Wilkinson V52 Butterscotch Blonde Guitar and the Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster in Butterscotch Blonde. I understand that both guitars have good points and bad points and am completely 50/50 at the moment on them.

So first of all which one would you choose and why! Is the Vintage better because there are genuine Wilkinson parts on it? Or is the Squier CV better because it has a pine body which is what the original Esquire came out with. Anyways make a decision and then explain why you choose it, because it will help me decide.

Cheers!

I can't speak to the Wilkinson, but the Squier Classic Vibe is a fantastic instrument. The CV is actually pretty legendary for being a great bang for your buck axe.

Cv is the standard by which all others shall be measured. Cheap teles, that is.

Yeah I really like them to. I actually own a CV60's Strat and am inseparable with it at the moment and want to get a Tele. Now I love the CV but I also found the Wilkinson Vintage and it looks pretty ace too...

the v52 headstock is not tele-like at all. Its more rondo-like.

Yeah the headstock was one thing that put me off. Are Wilkinson parts really that good anyways?

The squier is just a lot better, they are at the top of there game at the moment and even giving the MIM fenders a run for their money.

I'm not so hot on vintage guitars and trevor wilkinson hardware/pups isnt always better.. to my mind trevor's great accomplishment was the locking floating trem for strats, but I don't think the run of the mill parts are so good myself.

Thanks for the input everyone it seems pretty clear which one is the winner. I think I am going to get the CV Tele. Is there much difference between the CV 50's and the CV Custom? I haven't examined it too closely just yet but I saw the CV Customs cost more.

What's your budget. Perhaps you can get a cheap used Baja Tele?

My budget is going to be about 450 to 500 Aud (470 usd to 520 usd). Shops in Australia are very expensive as they add a huge mark up and major companies price discriminate as well in Australia. As an example I bought a new Classic Vibe 60's from Thomann.de for 400 which included shipping. In Australia most stores are selling them for 700 to 750...

So if I am going to get something it will be most likely on-line from overseas and used is ok to.

What do people think of Fret-King as a brand. I noticed they were also done by Trev Wilkinson but seem a little classier. I liked the Black Label JD model and it seems like a traditional Telecaster.

Don't know what the diff is, but I recently bought the Squier CV Custom Tele: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier-C...38-i1502379.gc , and it's a nice guitar--taking some getting used to the radius of the fretbd, as most of my other guitars have a "flatter" radius, but no biggie. Sounds fine and the finish is real nice.

They're very nice indeed, and just different enough from all the usual Fender clones to be interesting alternatives.
