My two main axes are a Suhr Modern and a Parker Fly Deluxe. They're both shred, but not, I suppose. The Suhr is brighter, heavier (weight wise) and is more like a super punchy sounding Strat through my gear. The Parker has a bit more heft to the tone, but has the added versatility of a coil tap and the piezo. I prefer the tremolo on the Suhrs, but the Parker trem is quite nice. The Suhrs are MUCH more reliable than the Parkers, but you pay for that too I guess. I also like the US (not Japanese) Charvel Pro Mods and the Wolfgangs if you can deal with Floyd Roses.

Since you're still looking for a shredder that doesn't look like a shredder, what responses have come closest to what you're thinking?
The ones that interest me the most have been (in no order), the Gabrels Reverend, PRS CE, and some of the Musicman models.

I REALLY dig the EVH Specials out right now but I don't have the patience for a Floyd.

How about a Charvel? Some of the Pro Mods can be found pretty cheap on eBay.

They don't float, so other than a little fine tuning once you clamp the lock nut, there's not much to it.

I would like to be able to pull back on the trem, though. Not a lot, but enough.

So, you don't have the patience for a Floyd, but you want something floating?

Strat trems don't give me a fit.

Who is that guy...isn't he in DEVO? I thought we were talking about shredders.

Somewhat slim but not particularly so...it's the standard modern Strat C carve and it falls perfectly to hand. If you like the Gibson '60s slim Taper carve this is comparable though not the same. I find switching between the two (Strat to 335 or LP) to be very natural needing little to no adjustment.

It is definitely not a chunky '50s carve but that's not what most people want in a shredder anyway.

Agreed. I have a Silouhette that is just fantastic. I also have two Sterling 'Petrucci"s, and they're really well made.
