I freaking love playing guitar.

That's it. That's all I've got to say about that. I seriously just want to let people know how much I love to play. I seriously would have killed myself when I was a teenager if I hadn't discovered music and guitar playing. And now, it fills my life in such a way that I live the life I've always wanted to. Every time I play, it fills me with an emotion that nothing else can touch. I get a real sense of purpose from guitar and music, and I feel like life is not only worth living, but is a great thing as well.

Well, I guess that's it. You can all go back to your usual business now

Well said and agreed, I've been playing since I was 13 and I'll play until I die.

Fantastic!

There are times that being able to pick up my guitar really helps keep my sanity and reduces the stress from a hectic work week. It's really a focus of enjoyment and relaxation for me, which is why I DON'T want to do regular gigs any more. I would hate for it to turn into a 'job'...

I think that's also why I've never been interested in "gigging". I enjoy playing when I want to play and couldn't bear it turning into "work".

^What they said, cept it is my major and will be my job at some point....I just love the thought of getting 'paid' (if you can call it that in music) for doing something I love!

I make it a point to play every day, even if for just 30 minutes, it is the one thing I let drop for the most part while working on a career in business. I am 54 years old now and playing the best I have in my life, have no plans of stopping, although I met a few (quite) older guys that switched over to keyboards when the skin on their fingers couldn't handle the strings anymore.....but for now, I'll keep pickin'

After playing for 25 years, the same joy of expression is just as powerful as it ever was!

I can totally back this thread for a fistful of reasons, but here's what kept me up last night:
The purely tactile element of the instrument. Holding it, feeling the intelligent contours, the vibrations of the wood, the earnest-yet-modern design elements, all that and then manually pulling the sound from it. The zing of chords, the sensation of my fingers crafting the notes themselves and creating the vibrato directly. I like playing faster and generally do so, but sometimes it's fun to take it slow and drink deep the richness of the physical relationship you, as a musician, have with your piece. I'm not a materialist, but I'm a bit of a romantic; I love the guitars I keep because I keep the guitars I love, and it's a very intimate partnership I have.
There are many great instruments out there, but there is nothing like the guitar. A perfect palette for personal expression and style. Brilliant.

100% agree, it almost defys explanation. It is at the core of what I am. It's also very personal and when playing out its like exposing your most inner self which can be a bit terrifying at times but always worth it.
