Question What size frets/fretwire is PRS using lately?

On PRSh website - I see lots of fretboard specs, but no specs on the frets themselves.

Years ago I would geek out over every little detail of whatever. These days, I pick it up and play it, and if I like it, I keep it / buy it, etc.

So in a return to numbers/detail - I'm about to spec out a custom Strat neck, and I'd like it to have, to whatever extent possible, some of the aspects of the necks on my newest PRSi. (Artist V, SC58, Sig Ltd, etc.). Now as far as neck measurements I'm pretty set, but not sure on what fretwire is on these?

In most research I've done, people say that what PRS uses on most of the newer guitars is closest to 6150 / 6155?

So is that the case, and in general - what size fretwire is closest to the newest PRS guitars?

It used to be closest to 6150's on most of the lineup. There are exceptions like the DGT.

I would strongly suggest that you look at Jescar FW47104 if you are seeking the regular wire and not the "6100" type found on DGTs, etc. PRS frets are N/S, but this wire can be sourced in Stainless and EVO.

I've done some "homework" with regards to this...none of my PRS now have stock fret sizes, but I had to get a reference point first and did before making any changes, all verified though luthier measurments and other sources.

The Ratchet, have you tried calling PRS Customer Service? Maybe they are talking straight about this stuff now or have armed their staff with this information. As I believe I've mentioned elsewhere, my calls in the past to PRS were met with either "It's essentially "6150" or "It's our own proprietary wire, I think".

If you could get it "from the horses mouth" that would be helpful I think to many. I went to the larger Jescar FW57110 (SS) wire on all of my PRS, so a moot point now for me personally, but not for anyone who wants new frets of the same exact stock.

No, and I'm not sure that they would want to work with SS but you can ask. I had a local Los Angeles luthier named Michael Tuttle do the work, and it is exceptional. Michael is turning away repair type work now, but there are others out there who are good, like Phil Jacoby. I believe Phil used to work for Paul.

Tom,

Good to see your post.

Just got one back from Phil. Excellent job. PTC would not use my choice of wire.

Phil is excellent if you don't mind a long wait.

I also found a local guy (DFW/N.-TX) who does excellent work;

http://www.bigjohnsguitars.com/ He's done both my Tylers and Fender CS
tele w/FW57110-S. Also VERY EXCELLENT work. Had I known about him before Phil, I would've had him do my PRS.

My PRS CU24 w/FW57110-S & plek from Phil;
