Apogee Rosetta 800 vs Ensemble?

I am currently in a dilemma between getting the apogee rosetta 800 or ensemble. Does anyone have had an experience with both of these interfaces?this producer i work with said that the ensemble's conversion isnt as great..he said even the duet 2's conversion is wayy better than the ensemble.. And i saw a video on youtube between duet and rosetta and wow impressive! i currently have the duet and want to move up to a bigger interface with more mic pre's..

anyone have any reviews for these? which would you recommend? rosetta 800 or ensemble?

thanks!

The 800 is a discontinued conversion box and is quite different in form, function and price from the Ensemble.

I really can't ascertain why you may be comparing those two...or if there may be a better solution without enough info.

I/O needs, budget, what are you recording? Do you already have outboard pre's? etc.

That can be very helpful...

I currently have the duet 2 and the limitations with that is the fact that i dont have enough inputs to record drum set with it.. And no i do not have outboard pre's

and i am looking to spend up to $2000 for a new I/O

thanks!

Well the rosetta has no pre's, so you'll need to budget in pre's on top of all that. If it were me with the choice between those two i'd get the ensemble because it has 4 decent pre's, question though, why is it a choice between those two? There's plenty other model's on the market in that price/quality range. RME, even the Universal Audio Apollo is in that range.

I have greatly disliked every piece of Apogee gear I have owned (Rosetta 800, Macbook Pro PCI/Laptop card debacle a few years back, etc.). Though I should be grateful for the experience, because their gear and the myriad issues I had with them, caused me to seek and discover other far better solutions. YMMV, and there are happy users of their gear, I'm sure... Forced to choose between the two, I'd go Rosetta.

If at all possible, check the new UA Apollo in that budget range. RME is another good suggestion. I have high user satisfaction with both of those companies... Recommend you go over to Gearslutz.com and read extensively about those two items/brands and especially "The Low End Theory" section.

My 2 cents...

Best,

Mike

For $2000 I'd seriously look into the Apollo Duo: http://en.audiofanzine.com/external-...p-for-men.html

Correct, the rosetta has no pres, and also no headphone outputs. You'll need both pres and a monitoring setup (active monitors, or passive with amps). I'd also check on system requirements and support for firewire on the rosetta (which is a separate card you install).
