NAD----Marshall 1959slp MKII
Received my used Super Lead from GC in Chicago, and was very surprised to see that it's in "like new " condition. Packed very well ( thanks guys ! ) , and yes, it's freakin' loud ! The sales guy said it had been modded, but no one at GC knew what mods... so.... I rushed home to fire it up , and man does it sound good. In order to tame it a bit I connected my MPX-1 in the loop , turned the volume full up on the amp, then dialed back the input signal on the MPX-1 due to clipping, then turned the output up to blow the windows out in the basement.
Looks like the OT and chokes are all original, so must have been a minor mod ( or no mod , who knows..), will investigate , but at this point it sounds so good I don't care what the mod was...it's all good. H

Cool. It's refreshing to hear that someone is enjoying/playing their new amp instead of wondering if they can make it better.

Is this a vintage amp or a reissue?
I've never seen a 1959 SLP with a loop Just curious |

SLP stands for "super lead plexi" which only-can-be the reissue. they weren't referred to as "plexi" back when they had plexi panels. they were just marshalls then. the more recent reissues(SLP) do have loops.

Reissue, and for $ 949 it was a great buy. I was looking at vintage 1959's but they were pricey, a gamble , and I would need to attenuate. I need an FX loop, I know everyone says the RI's are crap , but sounds great to me.

I agree.
They are also a great pedal platform due to the enormous clean headroom. That's a fine amp for under $1K. Good luck with it.

I don't own any OD pedals but would like to hit the SLP with a boost for a little more gain. What pedal would you recommend that would retain the character of the amp ?
Thanks , H

Quote:
Less compressed: Throbak Boost/Overdrive (fantastic pedal) Tim/Timmy Analogman KOT More compressed: Boiling Point Wampler Paisley Wampler Ecstasy (center position on the toggle is less compressed) Menatone Blue Collar Rockett Blue Note Also, my guess is, a Skreddy Lunar Module would kill in that circuit. It's a fuzz pedal by definition but, also does some great (looser) overdrive tones. Note: I play mostly classic and southern rock. And, some greasy blues.

fulltone plimsoul is awesome with this amp. so is an ocd.
if you want to get real overdriven huge tones, get a Zvex Box of rock. this is a great pedal for these amps. |

Get hold of an ancient MXR Micro Boost and goose it with an ancient MXR 6 band EQ. Put the EQ after the boost. Sounds Great !

Thanks for everyone's input , much appreciated. I'm bidding on a Chandler Tube Driver , and I'll also try a few that were suggested.
Thanks again , H

BTW, the non-HW plexi reissue(just fine as is), with loop, is designated "SLP-X". Congratulations!
