Frontman - RIP?

I was thinking of picking up the FM 212 amp. But my local music store told me Fender is phasing out the Frontman series of amps. Although they're in the 2012 dealer catalog (with MAP price, natch) this may be their last year. Seems Fender is really getting into amp modeling and effects.
Jeez, ya can't even get a simple 100W $300 solid state amp anymore.

I think this may get you out of the "simple" category (no FX) but I have several friends who are regularly gigging Roland Cube 60s and have very good things to say (if you have to head in another direction).

You can get it for less in the used market.

Isn't that bunch of crap?
The world is going effects and fancy crazy. Back to simplicity for me. And I hope and secretly believe that the world WILL get back to simplicity. The current situation is nuts and look at what it's producing:

check the economy
check the music roster for any new bands with the cred of Zep or Hendrix.
check the number of different toothpastes Crest or Colgate is producing- choice is fine, until it takes you 5 minutes to even find the one you're looking for because of the number of cinnamon-flavored, gel-textured, whitening, plaque-preventing, 3.948765788 ounce, or 3.948765789 ounce, flip-top or screw cap tubes or plastic cans of toothpaste hiding the one you're actually looking for that has the word 'original' on it. (which probably isn't original any more since now they're being made in China and heaven knows what 'original' means NOW...

A simple 100 watt solid-state Fender Frontman is the best watt per dollar amp on the market (or WAS on the market), and it is loud and clean. And simple.

Waggin' my head...

Actually, the FM didn't sound as good as the plainer-label just "212R". I've owned 4 of those amps. (212R) So if they've canceled the FM, that's good. If they've cancelled the much simpler 212R, then that sux.

In any case, my previous "complication" rant stands.

I always thought you could get two of those amps and connect all the speakers to one amp and have a cheap 100w half stack with a back up amp built in or a 200w 4x12 for playing outdoors in stereo.

Fender has their guitar inputs in parallel so you can run out of the guitar input to another Fender guitar input, and you'll have a full stack of speakers with TWO one hundred watt amps pushing the 4-12s. I've done it with three of the Frontman 212Rs.
