I like them, the only downside is how they don't use tab but tell you where to put your finger for each note, that gets a little long winded and tedious, but good content and teachers

Too much talking, not enough tab.
The quality of the teachers also varies greatly.

They don't TAB cos then they would need to pay royalties.

Spoken instruction gets around this. I believe.

I didn't know that, thanks.

It disturbs me somewhat... They want to make money from other people's work, but not pay the royalty? I don't like that.

I own over 20 of their DVDs so I'll say this... If you want to learn HOW to play a certain song, there is no one better at teaching that than Lick Library. Their backing tracks are fantastic and IMO the lack of tabs forces you to pay more attention to the actual notes. The "Learn to Play Jeff Beck DVD" is mind blowing. Michael Caswell is the only person I have ever heard pull off Beck so well that you'd swear it was Jeff himself teaching you his licks. Their talent roster is second to none. Where else can you find a place where an instructor can pull off Dream Theater flawlessly and teach it to you note for note? (Andy James).

Where their stuff falls flat is in their instructional/educational stuff. It's just not very good. Truefire.com is WAYYYYYYYY better even if the players are no where near as talented as those at LickLibrary. Truefire offers more variety and more bang for your buck, and their course work is thorough and very well organized. LickLibrary's idea of an instrcutional DVD is a bunch of licks with no context or explanation.

I agree Mike Caswell is worth the price of admission. His Beck interpretations are unparalleled and he really studies the artist he is presenting in every aspect. Even using the exact guitars, ect.
All of the instructors are first class over at Lick Library and they are definitely the best 'instructional' DVD's out there.
I disagree and find Lick Library to very well organized and I have bought and viewed many instructional videos in the past.

+1 to this. Great players and their neo-classical shred dvd is killer but without tabs it requires serious note taking to get some sort of visual reference.
