If you contract someone to do a job for you and are paying them to do that job you have some responsibility to make sure crimes aren't being committed. If you are made aware they were you need to take action. If they were using unsafe practices you needed to provide some oversite.
So who pays for all the damage the employees of BP caused? I guess not BP because that would be unfair, I mean it was the actions of individuals not BP?

I guess making tax payers pay for it is more fair?

F the NCAA.

Hasn't everyone involved gone to prison, died or been fired.

Why is the NCAA punishing the innocent?

F the NCAA.

The university should be closed and anyone from the dean to the janitors that knew about what was going on and hushed it up should be put in prison. The sanctions that were levied to the football program are just a slap on the rist. The veiw that children, poor, troubled or rich are dispensible is ludicrous and wrong. What the people that run Penn State did to the children of Pennsylvainia should be dealt with in a way that sends a message to pedophiles across the USA that we as a society will not stand by and watch our children be raped and thrown away.

The NCAA punishments I'm aware of are almost always institutional in nature. Bowl bans and loss of scholarships happen all the time. Lack of institutional control seems like a fairly easy violation to claim. This case is just more severe as it should be.

In the end we ALL pay for the damage and loss of revenue directly or indirectly as a society.

Do you think if Sandusky getting life and all of the others who are proven to have been involved in the cover up all got prison terms it would act as a tool in changing the culture?

I think it would. If others realized they will be punished for their deeds I think the culture would change.

Unfortunately Paterno is dead so now we can only punish his family and the kids who came to Penn State to play.

I'm not sure burning Penn State to the ground would be the rational direction to go.

coldfingaz says:
If there ever was a case that called out for swift & immediate justice, this is it. As it stands now, the school & NCAA apparently haven't given much thought to how they're going to protect these PSU football players when they travel to road game stadiums. It's gonna be rough out there."

Not to mention the fans, both sides, and the family's there just to watch a ball game with their young kids. As an American, I am so very ashamed of how this is being handled so far. What if some small little kids get trampled on during one of these games because of a riot of some type? Will we "they" put a stop to this circus then? What the hell are these idiots thinking with...their bank roll? Yes. Not a brain between them all.

Very informed commentary, as usual

Well I dont see how Paterno's family is being punished except to the extent his estate is devalued based on the actions of Joe. Or for that matter, any more punished than the family of Sandusky.

Many in PA truly think this is all a huge conspiracy against them.

If you don't believe me, just go cruise one of the many links posted in this (or the other Paterno?) thread where you can read their comments for yourself.

They are buying those Paterno family statements hook, line & sinker on a daily basis.

So... no, sorry, this culture is not about to change anytime soon. They're already looking for their next JoePa... their next savior.

Folks, it's okay to express anger. But keep the language and visuals clean.

The whole premise of the penalty is "guilt by association" . The whole school is paying the price. It would logically indicate the family would suffer from the "guilt by association" wrath too.

We've already had one person here state that his wife should be thrown out on her arse.

You went to Penn State well you are part of the "culture" has also been stated. You must be punished.

I have no allegiance to Penn State or any school although I do root for the Buckeyes. I am just trying to look at this situation objectively. I'm all for max prison terms for those who committed and covered up these horrific acts.

Strawman argument Dave. Don't judge everyone's opinions or thoughts by the radical views.

Has she been thrown out on her ass? I think most of the animosity lodged against the family or students has been based on their actions, not someone else. Remember the riots? Joe's son just wont stop fanning the flames.

Look, if Joe would be held accountable and have to pay the victims restitution, does that obligation of Joe's die with him? Does the family get to keep Joe's estate merely because he died? If so that is just Joe's final parting slap to the face to the victims.

Ya know, Dave, you've now gone completely overboard here.

You've purposely stretched & connected various statements together as if they're related, but they're not.

I said "guilt by association", which is entirely true. The current & ex players are impacted by the crimes their superiors committed. That is a simple fact.

But, that doesn't give anyone the right to claim Paterno's wife should lose her house, nor does it mean that anyone & everyone that goes to PSU must be punished... nor does it mean fans at the stadiums the PSU football team visits should act out against this team in any ways that cross the line.

You could certainly filter out the radical responses & separate them from the helpful ones. But, you chose to combine them.

Think whatever you want. There's been a ton of thoughtful replies to your posts in this thread, but this post makes me think you didn't deserve any of them.
