Advice on building a speaker cab...

I'm trying to convince my father to build a speaker enclosure for me (because he's a heck of a great woodworker). I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions:

--Do you know any good places to find plans for building cabinets? Dimensions, suggested woods, grade of wood, thickness, etc.
--Know any good places online to buy wood and other materials (hardware, jacks) for something like this?
--Is there a good reference online for wiring a speaker cab? Need to figure out all that series / parallel / ohm business, too.

Any other wisdom you'd care to share would be appreciated, too. Thanks for your time!
