Sewell Texaverb 50: wow!

I decided on the white Marshall levant with the Marshall large check grill.

Sewell amps are turning up on stages all over, and this is Doug's take on the amp that Leo never made (but should have). It's a 50 watt 1x12 combo based on the blackface Vibroverb, but beefed up and ready to rock.

He chose to use a Bassman spec output transformer instead of the small iron of the Vibroverb. This greatly increases headroom and spank. The preamp section is based on the vibrato channel, sans the tremolo. The exclusion of this circuitry, and the deletion of the Normal channel makes available a lot more juice from the power transformer, which translates into much more available gain, and this thing will get right into vintage Marshall crunch territory with the master down and the preamp turned up.

The reverb sounds as good as any Fender I've ever played, and Fender reverbs are hands down the best.

I'm loving this thing.

It has a P12N in it. I A/B'd it with a Texas Heat, and this speaker sounded much better. I have to say I was quite surprised. When Doug told me he wanted me to try the P12N, I was really a little leery about it, being a 50 watt speaker in a 50 watt amp, and generally I haven't much cared for the Recoton speakers I've tried in the past, but man, this thing just works with this amp.

Congrats! That thing is a little sweetie. I'm a big fan of Doug's amps as well. He has some excellent ideas and his execution is top shelf.

It's cool to see Sewell Amps coming around again for praise. They are great amps.

Question

Hey Flack,

I'm going to be ordering a 'Verb from Doug shortly, how clean is this amp?

I've got a Texaplex and I'm looking to do the two-head thing so I need a dedicated amp for cleans.

It's about as clean as you want a 50 watt Fenderish amp to be, but it also has the ability to get pretty raunchy if you push it. I got it for the clean, but was pleasantly surprised at how much gain was on tap after the headroom runs out.

I have the Texaplex 50 (Marshall Plexiloid), do you think the Tremoverb has enough headroom on tap to keep up with the T'Plex while staying clean?

Thx Man
