I've loved 10's w/ guitar for a long time, since late 70's - plugging my Strat into bass player's SVT w/ 8X10 cab (compared to my crappy 2X12, mfg. name withheld, at that time). Currently selling 2X10 TT cab (oval back opening) (on Fleabay), that I love, but have to sell due to couple of recent acquisitions, incl. '68-69 drip edge Super Reverb (4X10, sounds great - also open back!).

I've been using a BF Tremolux 2x10 w/ a 1x12 SF DR and that is a sound that's hard to beat.

I've been using a 2x10 for years. I like it pretty well. Granted, I haven't played through 12 inch speakers on a regular basis, so I can't really comment with unwaivering authority on the exact differences. The 10s sound tight and punchy to my ears. They don't thump as well as the 12's I've heard, but I don't really need that much thump anyway. They seem to have a very quick response. 10s seem to transition from the initial attack of the pick to the ring of the chord or note a little quicker than 12s but I haven't done enough listening to verify that this is strictly due to speaker size. It probably has more to do with the speaker construction and the amp you are using.

I use a closed back 2X10 cab as an extension for a Mesa 22+ combo.
The Mesa has its stock Celestian style speaker. The extension cab has Mojo Tone, Fender style, speakers.
The punch and tightness of the 2X10 cab is nice! The tone is warmer and more articulate than the open back cab of the Mesa combo. The cab is an Altec monitor cab, which has that fiberous insulation. With the Altec speakers in the cab, the highs come out more and the sound is noticably brighter. With the Altec speakers, I have to adjust the amp settings to adjust for the brightness. Currently, the Mojo speakers are in the cab.
When playing a clean to very slightly overdriven sound, this is my favorite setup. The sound is tight, warm and focused.

AWW yea!

been loving 10" loaded cabs these days. i find them that much punchier and sweeter sounding, than the more beamy and projecting 12". lets my sound be more present on stage, too.

my fav currently is my Tone Tubby 2x10 that looks exactly like this:

fell in love w/ the look, and now, peter buck and i have the same cab!

but i too have the Dr. Z 2x10, and i love the super compact size, and especially the Z speakers. great airy cleans, and big walloping overdrive tones. highly versatile speaker.

btw, anyone wanna recommend me some speakers. love the TT alnico's and the Z's, but am always lookin' for something else to try.

Ken's Cabs 2x10 w/ 1 10A125 and 1 Blue Pup. Favorite cab, it just sings when you even tap it.

Running one of two Two Rocks into it for scruffy jazz. Sounds like a parallel universe Vibrolux - cleaner and dirtier at the same time. Well, actually better bass, sustain and detail, but more crunchy on top.

the Z cab was high on my radar even though they're not pine

I'd love to get a Ken's cab, TT, or a custom from many of the other builders out there. the Bob Burt V cabs look great too

does TT build their own cabs, or are they outsourced ?

I'm currently useing a 2X10 closed back cabinet, with 2 16 ohm Emenience Legend 105's, for 150 watts at 8 ohms. I feel that the closed back cabinet, retains some of the low end, that I lost, switching from 12" to 10" speakers. The cabinet is from Ted Lopozynski (Lopo Line), made from baltic birch plywood. The weight with speakers, is 32 pounds.

The 2X10 cabinet sounds better than 4X12 and 4X10 cabinets, that I have owned previously. The other cabinets, would take up my entire trunk, forcing me to pack everything else, in the back seat of my car. The 2X10 cabinet fits in the trunk, with a 100 watt head, 2 guitars, and all my other equipment.

Best 2x10 cab I've ever played is the Dr. Z 2x10.

Not a whale of a lot there except one important point: clear Ponderosa pine.

I think Tone Tubby uses Ken's stuff.

I've got two 10s kicking around that would complement each other nicely as an extension cab for my tweed Champ copy. I'd like to build my own 2x10 cab. Anyone know of any good sites to learn how to put the wood together nicely?

It'll be an old gibson alnico and a new eminence hemp cone Lil Buddy. One sparkly, one smooth. I just need a set of dimensions to know what will sound good.
