Cool How to spot a Brazilian?

While I may be able to pick out the girl from Ipanema...:angel

I bought a LP R7 goldtop that the previous owner said had Brazilian wood.
How can I tell if this is the case?
Any easy way to discern this type of wood and would it be on the fretboard, the neck, or both?
Or the body or the top.... (it's a gold top, so how would I know)?

It will be smooth to the touch, almost shaved or waxed, ya know? Kidding! It will have to be a 2003, low serial number under 350. You can run the serial number at http://www.guitarpool.com/cgi-bin/brcheck.pl, ask on the Gibson Custom Shop site at http://www.gibsoncustom.com/cgi-bin/...=topics&fid=14
or call Gibson Customer Service to verify (1-800-444-2766).

did you pay more because the seller told you it was brazilian?

a lot of people will tell you what they think but that doesn't make what they think true.

BTW, brazilian rosewood is for the fingerboard and not the top or the neck.

Yes. EBay listing 120045296190

I called Gibson at the above number and they said it is NOT Brazilian! (SN 731367)

As for the pic, now THAT'S a Brazilian!!!

I have an 03 as well. It doesnt fall into the Brazillian serial numbers either but man it sure looks and feels like it! Lots of reddish hues and dark stripes going on! Makes no difference to me personally as its a great guitar regardless.

Actually, the Goldtops have Brazilian boards into the 700 serial number range. My '03 Historic Goldtop "Stinger" has a Brazilian board and it's serial #7 3701.

You are correct! I called them today and they had Brazilian boards through the 707th one. The one is the 1,367th! (Darn - only missed it by 660!!!)
