Bang for your buck chorus?
Hey guys,
I have two spots open on my board and after playing a gig this weekend I want to get a chorus. Only thing is I have been trying to find a good one for no more than 100 bucks, even less if possible. I had a Boss ch-1 for awhile but sold it since I wasn't using it. I would go back to the ch-1 but I payed twenty bucks for one, I don't think I would pay for what they are going for. I know Arion chorus gets a lot of love o the board, they just seem unstable (correct me if I am wrong). Others I have looked at Guyatone MC-3, Boss CE-3, Boss CE-5, etc. So if you guys got some chorus secrets that would be great. Not looking for that leslie sound. More of the shimmer 80's cure sound. Thanks in advance. -Yannick |

I have a Keeley modded CE-2 that is FANTASTIC...
I used to be very against Chorus, as I thought it was too "80's".... But this pedal has made me re-think that.... I have the "speed mod"... and I'd really like the "Hi-Fi" mod. |

the only thing about the keeley modded ce2s is that you HAVE TO send you own ce2 in. i got a danelectro cool cat which is ok but ill eventually look for a ce2 or a look into MXR's stereo chorus. the only problem with the MXR and cool cat is that they run on 18v and its really hard to find an 18v adapter unless you got dunlop's dc brick

Hey musickbox,
If you can find a used Boss CE-2 pedal or the Arion SCH-1 used, they're both very cool pedals. CE-2 will give you the classic chorus sound and the Arion will take you give you the Leslie type swirl. Guitar George

Yea, I am not looking for odd voltages like 18v. I could get a adapter that godlyke makes, but for extra twenty I can find better pedals. The Boss ce-2 plus the mod is well over 100 bucks. Looking for more subtle sound than leslie swirly sound. I hope I clarified things.

Ibanez CS-9 -- about 75ish. Great Zeppelin-ish chorus...Not as leslie like as the Arion more subtle, great with some OD...

The Ibanez Bi-chorus pedals are really nice and are well under $100.00. I have the "9" series version (BC9) and it's sounds great.

Danelectro FAB Chorus is the ultimate cheapo option. Excellent for wobbly stuff. E-H Small Clone shines especially with slower sweeps. I'm using both in my pedalboard.
Robert Smith and friends supposedly used CE-2's in the 80's, I like his sound a lot. Still, I'm unable to get anything useful out of the classic CE-2 myself, it sounds somehow too obvious, too tired to me. The archetypal chorus sound. Boring. |

Any old Ibanez/Maxon pedal if you want a bright, airy chorus. Try and get a stereo one. I've got a BC10 Stereo Bass Chorus and it's fantastic in stereo. Few little gripes, mainly the slight volume boost and it's a bit noisy, excessively so with the delay time control above 8. But they only go for $30-50, and have the same chips in them as the Maxon CS550 that sells new for $200

I picked up a boss ce-2b for 25$, sounds great on bass, I'm sure it couldn't sound bad on guitar.
