Is the Roadking the Ultimate Boogie?

Just curious. It sounds like it's got everything and the kitchen sink. Recto tones, Stilleto tones, Mark series tones...

Is it really all that and a bag of chips?

Yeah, I can go the Boogie store 45 mins away, but if I did that why would I ever post here?

what are you aiming for,tone-wise?

i remember counting the knobs on it when they first came out, other than that,i don't have any hands-on experience....maybe you oughta take that trip and eliminate all doubt.

i wish there was a 35-watt amp with one knob.but maybe that's too reductionist for your needs.
happy hunting,

I owned many Boogies and the RK was my favorite. Sometimes I wish I still had it. The Brit mode was pretty cool. Warning: it weighs a ton.

No..... The Road King II is the be all, hands down best Boogie IMO!! I had a RK (series 1) and it was the best amp I owned except for the cleans.... Now they have upgraded the cleans and the reverb in the series II and the Roadster (which I have now) so it is the most ultimate Boogie to date.

The only thing about the series II and the Roadster is the Brit mode suffered in the upgrade, you used to be able to crank the treble and gain and get a GREAT Marshall tone, now it's got more "body" but it's lost some of the gain on that channel. I started pushing it with my SD pickup booster and it gets about 95% of where the series 1 RK got.

So in reality, YES, the RK is the untimate boogie.

Hmm. Too bad about the Marshall tone. That would be a main reason why I would look in it's direction (that and the cleans I thought in the first RK were awful.)

I've played the Roadster which is supposed to be a "stripped down" version of the road king. That thing has so many switches and knobs, so the RK must be able to cook breakfast for you as well.

The roadster was a great sounding amp as long as you have someone who knows their way around the knobs/switches and likes to tweak. It does Fendery stuff, marshally stuff, soldano stuff, of course boogie. It's not a perfect clone of that, but you are just splitting hairs at that point. Great amp, but I'm too much of a simpleton and don't need something I can launch missles with.
