Rangemaster Clones - update

Hi all,

I need a Rangemaster clone! I searched and found several good threads on this, but I was wondering if any of you had more up to date info.

What do you like?

Just from the clips I am leaning towards the HBE Germania with the OC44 transistor. Pedalgeek also has this one that is not on the HBE site:

http://www.pedalgeek.com/cgi-bin/new...=link--hbegerm

it looks pretty versatile. Is it brand new or discontinued?

What Rangemaster clone should I get? Keeley? Throback? Swart? Kaden? Tonemaster? BSM (which one?)

any good ones I've missed?

TIA

DC

The best I've heard is the Pro Analog Top Boost, but no longer made. If you can find one - grab it.
Next option for me would probably be a Throbak...

AnalogMan Beano Boost is definitely one that should be in the running. The HBE Germacide is like a rangemaster with a 2nd boost stage, if you're into that. The Legendary Tones/Keeley Time Machine Boost has a rangemaster clone in the "vintage" 1966 side (along with a silicon transistor booster and two flavors of modern boost)...

D*A*M Red Rooster!

It can go anywhere from treble boost (nice and "Page-y" or "Bolan-y") to fat bass boost (Sabbath, anyone?)

I recently narrowed it down to the exact same set. And was leaning the same way. I ended up with a Kaden Chirper

But I'm-a try a carb, too.

I love my Java Boost, but I keep hearing good things about the Analogman Beano. Anyone want to trade?

Geez, am I going to get flamed for saying if they are a rangemaster clone and all use the OC44, then you're not going to be able to tell the difference? Most clones have been updated witht he Treble/Mid/Full range boost switch so don't sweat over which one you buy, because they not going to sound much different from each other, if at all. If someone says otherwise, then prove it, lets here it!

Out of all that you mentioned, all are high quality. Go with the one with the best graphics or the one that (in your mind) you think is the best. It will at least give the mental piece of mind that you picked the right one, although it won't be any different sonically than the others you mentioned.

There. It had to be said.

Beano Boost for me is the best. The low setting works wonders on a strat through a fender amp.

Not by me. What you say in yr post is exactly why I ended up going with the first reasonably priced model that showed up in the Emporium

IMO all Rangemaster clones are not equal. The two I like best are the Analogman Beano and the Thobak Strangemaster. Both deliver very authentic Rangemaster tones. While the Java Boost and the HBE Germicide are both fine pedals in thier own right, I found thier tones less than authentic. Of course others may like them better - I am just rating thier respective abilities to cop "classic" rangemaster tones.
