I don't feel too bad for being impulsive this time as I got for about 40% retail (meaning 60% off retail).

...got the "urge" to use your thumb to fret along the bass string and pull off chords with the right hand?

...Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, Paul Yandell, etc.?

You got it. Also thought it would be a little less prone to feedback than my Heritage Sweet 16. I heard some sound clips over at the GDP comparing the different models and pickups and really like the sound he was getting. I was thinking about a setzer model but that may be later down the road.

Check these out.

I would really like to try the Setzer Black Phoenix. The best Gretsch I have ever played though, a 2006 Black Penguin. I got goose bumps playing that thing.

Thats a cool guitar - I'm sure you'll get years of pleasure from it. Thats a really good comparison page which you provided a link to. I've never owned a Gretsch hollowbody style guitar but after listening to some of those clips, I may have to start thinking about it.

A friend of mine has a '59 6120. That guitar is so sweet and playable it freaks me a bit.

Ahh, not necessarily. Let's not forget the fellow Australian rockers who prove that nobody is too young and no music is too heavy for a gretch.

I'm in my mid 20's over here and I LOVE Gretsch hollowbodies, only guitars I'll ever play. Old's got nothing to do with it, just a love of great guitars.
