DL4, MM4 Vs. Echo Pro, Mod Pro

Outside from the obvious, are there any differences sound quality wise between the Line 6 DL4/ MM4 pedals and the Echo/ Mod Pro rack units when using the unbalanced i/o's? Anyone able to compare?

Thanks,
Kenny M.

I hear that the pro units are better sounding... Can't say for sure, but I think the pro units have better digital slash analog conversion (kinda like the difference between the POD 2.0 and the POD Pro, if I'm remembering correctly). I'm sure the Line 6 website would say (if you can find a page on the pro units anymore, that is).

Big difference as far as I am concerned. The Pro units have a much better fidelity and headroom to them. Knowing what I know now, if I was again looking for pedal based multiple preset boxes, I would go with the BOSS DD-20, CE-20 and OD-20 versus the Line 6 modelers.

Groveking, For a rack is the echo pro the best at what it does?? What i meant is theres little other unit that can do 16 types of delay. I know theres is better units for the mod side of things.

thanks

Aj

The EchoPro offers quite alot for the money, you can get most of the tones out of a few other digital delay based rack units, but it will take you months of tweaking. For the overall flexibility the EchoPro is hard to beat! I have a TC2290, Chandler SDE-2, Fulltone TTE, Roland RE-201, Echoplex and many other pieces it emulates and as you have noticed for modulation the ModulationPro is a perfect partner for the EchoPro. But as to the best of what it does, that's a very broad question. The TC2290 is the king of the hill in delays to me, but the EchoPro is more versatile.

Another option (a little more affordable than the 2290) would be the D-Two delay (TC Electronic). I don't have any personal experience with them, but they appear to be very flexible--I think there are several pros who use them as well.

Regarding the MOD PRO......

Believe me I have poured over all available internet
information on the mod pro....the info on the L6 site
is more "promotional" than informational...

I have a couple of questions about the unit.

1-Does it work well IN FRONT of an amp and
not in the effects loop ?

2-How do you turn it on and off? I see lots of midi
capabilities, but is there a plug on the back for
a regular old foot switch ? The pic on the L6 website
is too small to see.

THANKS !!
