Rice Custom Guitars

Gotta tell ya'll, these geetars are absolute gems. I bonded faster with my Rice Custom than any guitar I have owned in some 40 years. Mine has a Broadcaster style body, lacquered Bakelight guard, quartersawn maple neck with Fat C carve and a 7.25 -9.5 compound radius board. Weighs in at a tad less than seven pounds. Has a Truetone PAF in the neck and Van Zandt Vintage in the bridge with a 5-way Superswitch. The humbucker is wired so that when it is in tapped position the low frequencies come from both coils and the treble only from the screw side.

This sucker has tone. Can run from smooth and creamy to a snarl to an eerie falsetto. Still has more than enough Tele quack and twang to satisfy any purist.

Congrats to you and the Rice's. That is gorgeous.. They do the best looking necks.
Yours, and the one they did for John Beland, are just beautiful. I'm sure the neck feels and plays as good as it looks.

I emailed with Chris a couple of months ago about doing a white guard, in early 2007. I'm just waiting for a specific Fender release at NAMM (gotta ration out the $$$) and then I'm going to start talking with him about the specs.

I was originally thinking of staying with single coils, but now I might have to put a bucker in the neck.

That is a keeper :AOK

...+1 -- I, too, would like to "see" more pictures of their guitars and craftsmanship...examples of just "what" they can do for the discerning customer wanting a truly "custom" guitar.

I just had Rich Rice do a Mary Kaye finish on a one-piece Swamp Ash Tele body for me, and it looks fabulous. I can only imagine the kind of work he and Chris do on their own guitars...!

I've yet to put my Rice Distressed Blackguard Tele back in the case (and I got it over a month ago!)

Gotta tell ya, I am one of those guys who played the same 1950s Tele for decades. Never found one better. When I decided to go with a Rice Custom back in June it was a leap of faith on may part. I had never even considered buying a guitar I had not held in my sweaty little hands. Plus I do not have all the money in the world so it was a big decision.
The RCG, did what no other guitar had been able to do - it allowed me to put the Fender back in its case.

Here's one of mine. Lightest most resonant solid body guitar I own. The pickups are Lollars. Very versatile guitar. I love the color and the thin nitro finish. Great guys to do business with. Thanks Rich and Chris.

Thanks for the compliment, Obeleo. That's a really sweet guitar, but considering some of the others you own, that's a big statement.

Great to read all this! I have a Rice Custom lefty on order - going with an early 60's tele vibe with a rosewood board. Can't wait to get it!!

Waiting for FedEx to deliver this:

Given that it is 8pm here, doesn't look like it'll arrive today.
