I have never cleaned my Telecaster

Granted, I've only owned it for 6 months so far but this thing has seen lots of play time and is fairly dingy. Yet for some reason I won't clean it because to me, Telecasters are ment to be dirty.

Anyone else never/rarely clean their #1?

You're not allowed to clean a Tele. Says it right there on the Warranty papers.

Of course, you're not ever allowed to repair one either, so the whole Warranty thing is kinda stupid.

I just wiped down my '78 black Tele Custom. Pulled it out of the case to change strings and it was disgusting. Caked sweat, grime, some blood...
I haven't wiped it down since the summer. I always thought I took good care of my guitars-guess not my Tele!

I clean and polish maybe 2-3 times a year. Unless it has nasty grime. Dust is what drives me crazy.

The candy apple red Fat Tele gets cleaned on occasion. The MIM 'classic 50's'-based partscaster? Never.

There is no need to clean guitars really, unless there is excessive grime over the years on the fretboard, but i havent had a guitar that long. The aging looks nice, and if the metal is tarnished it should not be cleaned. Clean it if you want to sell it, but why buy a guitar that you will sell in five years.

I wipe guitars down before setting them down. Don't want anything collecting on them. I seldom clean & polish them though.

I've had my tele about 8.5 years, and yeah it gets a clean when it needs it, got a few dings and a few memories (played plenty of gigs with it, plus stuff like my uncles funeral last week) that's the sort of relicing I like. - The free and meaningful type.

When I say that I don't wipe guitars down, I mean the body, etc. I always wipe the strings down after a gig or I'm looking at breakage next time out (I try to get two gigs out of a set of strings usually).

I just had my #1's frets dressed and setup. The problem is the frets are all shiney now and there's no grime on the fretboard. I like to have a little grime on there. The guitar lost a little bit of it's mojo. lol

Just strap my #1 tele to the roof of the car and drive it through the carwash. I avoid the hotwax though.
