Whats your favorite FUZZ
I don't have much fuzz experience. Had a DIAZ Texas square Face once but it really didn't do much for me. I picked up a old UNIVOX Super Fuzz at a flee market and while it has some over the top sounds, its in pretty rough shape. So WHAT FUZZ'S are you using and WHY ?

My other guitarist has one, and I just bought one... the Lovepedal White Dragon. That thing is awesome.

I have no other fuzz experience except for my lovepedal karl, but I love it cause it's freaking wicked. it really does sound like the speakers are going to rip off the frame.

I have really gotten into the Lovetone Big Cheese, D*A*M Ram Head, and the Sun Face.

My two favorites right now are the Pro Analog MK II and when I want something a little smother I like the Sunface NKT 275. For me this is a great combination.

I dig my Sybil because you can mix the Si and Ge Fuzz Face circuits and get a lot of very cool fuzz tones. I also really like the Skreddy stuff. The Mayo is a great Muff styled fuzz and the Top Fuel (I have a Pinkmour version) is a great, articulate high gain fuzz that can be placed anywhere in your chain. Great lead or chording pedal.

Funny, I just got a Big Cheese, I traded my DAM Ram Head, and I'm selling my Sunface...I guess that's the circle of life.

I've always had huge problems finding a fuzz that suited me...I was about to give up 'til I found the Carl Martin The Fuzz...plain name, amazing tone.

I don't have that many, but of the ones I've tried the absolute best for me (blues, Hendrixy...etc.) is the Fulltone '69. I love that fuzz because it is stable (i.e. I can recreate easily sounds I like), intuitive, the knobs are easy to understand and use, and I can use it as an OD, fuzz...whatever.
Of the others, I love the Fuzz Factory (but am not safe with it playing gigs yet...complex!), Sunface is great and easy, BYOC is excellent. I couldn't stand the UFO (but the octave is great) fuzz side. |

I love my Sunface NKT 275. It's fat and ripping on chords, and has a nice pick attack and smooth decay on single notes - just enough sustain (I don't have a high-gain transistor).
I also have a Fuzz Factory. This is a fun pedal, but I can only get crazy tones out of it. Some guys say they can get "nice" fuzz sounds out of it, but I have trouble getting mine to behave. Huge sustaining, bassy, warm tones; crispy gated crackling tones; wailing, oscillating feedback sounds. I'm auctioning my D*A*M Mk II. It's got tons of sustain, and a great texture. Very old-school. I just can't have it and the Sunface. Too extravagant for me. |

Skreddy mayo, ? lady, & BJF PPF. I'm also looking to add a Analogman peppermint fuzz to the list soon & AM BC-108 or NKT-275 HG! I'd also like a Lovetone Cheese Source in the future! (I should of picked one up while they were still being made!)...also maybe a Cornish G-2???

Too many folks just ask, and get a list of fuzzes, but the responses you have gotten have been great. Most of the people posting noticed and said WHY they like it...how they use it. I neglected to though Oops. I mentioned among others, that the best I have found is the Fulltone '69, and that it can go from OD-like, to all-out fuzz, is easy to set and intuititive. Main thing thoug, HOW I tend to use, is in blues mostly and Hendrixy stuff. Two main ways I use fuzz are, 1) guitar rolled back, amp turned up..gets a "cleaner than clean...but somehow slightly dirty when you dig in" sound. I love that sound. The '69 is good at it, others BYOC is another and Sunface, are as good or better in that respect, but I balance it with 2) I also like to get a "on the edge of breakup" sound...not as clean sounding, and more mellow, but here when you dig in it goes JUST under the full-out fuzz sound. The '69 is so easy to set, so it is often on my pedalboard(s). The Fuzz Factory, is AMAZING...but for me, a little scary to gig with. It can easily get ear piercing high freq oscillation in quite a few combinations of settings (that's why, at least until one learns it well, it is best to have overall volume and FF volume down low when tweaking...save your ears!) but the more I play with it, the more I want to get to that level where I can use it gigging, safely. Also have notices the FF is much more finicky about other pedals down the line. But again, with experience with it that would not be a problem. The BYOC and Sunface, to my ears, are kinda similar. Both are excellent too. The world of fuzzes is a tricky one. |
