Question ID This guitar please?

Years ago, my Grandmother & Grandfather were on a TV show based out of Chicago,
The Old Barn Dance. My Grandfater was Dolf Hewitt ( King Of The Barn Dance), And Grandmother Was one of the Johnson Sisters ( Blonde on The Left)

Anyway, I was watching a video of the show on the Mesuem of Broadcast Communications Web Site and Noticed this really DIFFERENT guitar being used by Bobby Thomas ( White Guitar Younger guy on left) In The First Number after the Show Intro.

BTW, they got an Emmy for this show! LOL

Hope The Link Works,

Cool sounding guitar very Gretsch type sound.

Can Anyone ID It?

I can not seem to locate anything on that guitar for sure.

BTW, Imagine my childhood having to sit through those tapeings!! No wonder I was a Zepplin & Stones Fan! LOL

Edit, It does look a lot like an Airline headstock, But Finding the model looks like it will be a real trick.

It's a National Glenwood 99, circa 1961. Bobby Thomas went on to have his own signature National: a double-cutaway thinline in, IIRC, a very Gretsch-like orange finish.

Cool heritage, Trout.

These look like a cheap way to get that vibe in a guitar...

Special Thanks to Snarkle for ID'ing the guitar. I would have never figured it to be a National.

Now that We established the Make N Model, I was able to find a lot of great into on it also.

This is a 1962 National (Valco) Glenwood 99 (Val-Pro) res-o-glas, map guitar. It's the top of the line from 1962. The body is made of fiberglass and is a semihollow, double-cutaway (Maine & Florida are now cutaways!), and the color is white (which has faded to a cream color). The guitar was made by National a division of Valco in Chicago. The three pickups (neck, bridge, & piezo) sound incredible. They range from smooth to gritty and will work for any style of music. The tones this guitar generates cannot be expressed in writing; they have to be heard/played to be appreciated. The tone switch allows the use of each pickup individually but not all together. The tone controls vary the sound dramatically; from really muted and smooth to biting and there's a middle setting that splits the difference but is truly unique.
All Fiberglass Hollow Body?? What a concept! I wonder if it has good sustain LOL

Not to hijack the thread but just wondering what everyone thinks of the Metropolitian guitars, the Glenwood and Tanglewood models made 10 years back, any good? I've always loved the National map shaped guitars but wanted something a little more sturdy and not so pricey.

Thanks,
Sam
